why even bother releasing it to the public?

Does it even matter honestly?

Because music is not a "buying" process in the first place. You rather listen to it. This will never die. Never.

Because you want to express yourself and want other people to hear your art?

If not, then I guess there is no point.

Releasing music to the public is fine, as there are outlets for music that still generate revenue. However, I think the major problem with releasing music, particularly music that is in the more off-pop styles, is that in recent years we have had the music fall on the ears of an audience who has grown increasingly ignorant and disdainful of new or different musical ideas.

I find that even in the goth/industrial/ebm scene that I enjoy, the members themselves inhibit the growth of the scene by being unwilling to allow new acts, people, or styles in to their environment.

So I don't see much point in releasing music to the public anymore. Does this make me unhappy as a VAC fan? ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY!

Also, none of this kept me from buying the special edition of the RevState album.

I just mean, If I don't make any money from it, is there a point in doing it publicly. I write music for me no matter what, but i never have to release it to anyone to enjoy that part of it.

Releasing it to the public is this political social thing. I find it hard to deal with honestly unless I am compensated for it.

Don't get me wrong, I love my loving fans. But that base has shrunk so much.

Why would i want to continue if they are all gone?

I think you should be thankful for whatever amount of fans you have.
Appreciate that fact. As long as you feel you'd be writing the music regardless of making it public, then I say "why not?". Why not release it and let your fans hear your newest work?

There's no pressure with the fans that stick by you. They'll support whatever you put out.

It's enviable to be in your situation. You can work on something that you truly believe is for you, yet know there is always a community of people, regardless of size, that will be there to give you feedback and support you. They're eager to hear your next bit of work.

That should be a driving force and motivator if anything. Not a deterrent.
