Post Apogee One
Bought this yesterday to record acoustic percussion with the internal mic and the results are pretty interesting. I'm new to Apple and it's very strange to be able to install drivers or programs without any anomalies... The converters are very good and it's the best sounding USB interface I tried yet, for only 300$.

Duet is great, more I/O, FW connectivity but no built-in mic. I like the fact that everything you need to compose a song is integrated in such a small, truly portable device! I also get a really good response with bass guitar, without amp. The sound is clean, not much colouration.

I'll give it a proper test run tonight and post some samples next week.

Here is a short recording. Nothing fancy, Yamaha CS6-X, 2 tracks recorded with onboard effects in Garageband...

I used to have a 6x. Id like to grab one again someday. Even as just a controller it is pretty sick. Some interesting patches to fill gaps. There is one badass heavy acid patch on that board called rabbit that is awesome tho. I miss it lol.

As a rompler, I do prefer my Ensoniq TS-12. The CS6-X become interesting when there is PLG-AN/DX cards inside...

Duet here as well. Love it.

I would be concerned with a device featuring a built in mic. If the mic goes bad or is unsuitable you're stuck with a portion of the device being useless. Also, you will likely need multiple mics depending on what you are recording. They all have unique characteristics.

If cost is a concern I'd go with a less expensive interface (not cheap though), not a less expensive mic. That's the last place you want to cut corners. Any decent device will get the signal from A to B.

I totally agree with you. I already have some lovely mics for almost all my purposes. The good thing with the One, wish is not my principal audio interface, is to be able to compose very fast, wherever you are, with a good sound quality. The built in mic is impressive thought.

Apogee is really good for the price.. I just sold my Duet and Ensemble to make way for a Prism Orpheus. What I didn't like about the Ensemble was how colored it was, and the fact I could never set the outputs to +4. If the outputs were +4, I would hear all sorts of noise.

What i love about the Prism converter is the quality, but there are no inserts after the pre amp. That was a really cool feature with the Ensemble. Driver wise for OSX it is a lot better and I pretty happy with the sound.

I never had any problems with the Duet. The integration is fantastic with it.
