 DSI Mopho
Doe's someone try this unit? I finally put my hand on this yellow box and I must admit that I'm stunned. There is just nothing that compete with this synth in that price range. Awesome.

 Re: DSI Mopho
I think the rotary knobs are what kill it for me, the interface sucks.

 Re: DSI Mopho
I must admit that for live tweaking, the knobs are very sensitive since they're only 8 of them for such a bunch of adjustment. But sonic wise, it blows away a lot of other gears that cost twice this price. I do enjoy the pitch adjustment which is very precise and also the filter's resonance.

 Re: DSI Mopho
yeah, but it doesn't sound vintage so i would pass on it, its too cutting and bright. Like all the new dco cem stuff.
i like my sh2 so much, and my polivoks in my modular, so vintage.

 Re: DSI Mopho
Actually, I was hunting for a SH-2 / SH-9 to ad some bubble tone, but the only one I've found at a correct price (600$) was looking post vintage with intermittent low signal. Since I'm ok with electronic fixing, I don't bother about buying defective units and try to restore them, but not for that price since some parts are pretty expensive... I don't have a bad opinion about digital gear, especially DCO as they are a way more stable but as I bought only vintage gear recently (DR-55, CR-8000, Juno-60, Alpha-juno and M500), none of my digital equipment (which is too much) is fitting in the mix anymore! They all sound thin and share the same metallic tone... Mopho is OK, even with digitally controlled oscillators. I'm constantly learning in this process and I think that the only way to admit the superiority of analogue gear is to try digital one's extensively... For such a long time I thought that all your bashing about digital gear was kind of pretentious as they are much more expensive and not readily available but I must admit that you were right...

 Re: DSI Mopho
Fyi .. the Mopho has fairly slick GUI app you can control the Mohpo with and it has midi learn, etc. Messed with it back at NAMM. Sub osc sounds good.

 Re: DSI Mopho
I can make the modular sound soft and nice, or like the meanest thing that wants to tear your face off. Musical, or noisey, vintage, or modern, complex, or simple.
it is my work horse.
desert island synth for sure. as is my 8080 that i could never do an LP without, it is my string machine.

 Re: DSI Mopho
the new vac.
took off after crushed guys.
The whole lp is like crushed with more polished vocals, cleaner, and better guitar sound, and drums.
But, think drushed more as a folk version. that is a good way to think of half of the new vac lp.
the other half is like techno acid and dance stuff and trance stuff.

 Re: DSI Mopho
I must admit that I'm pretty curious too about the new EP since I really enjoy DIJ, especially the song the enemy within which I consider to be a true classic. I like the idea of blending those styles on the same release. It will refresh the neo folk scene, exploring new musical path.

 Re: DSI Mopho
Yeah, a lot of things led to this minimal approach. Mostly isolation, and my midi being lame for a while. Not only that, i would just sit with my guitar and write songs it is so gratifying and low tech.

 Re: DSI Mopho
Yeah, it's certainly a different feeling to write songs on a guitar; instant gratification, keeps your mind out of tech mode which frees up more room for creativity. I like the fact that you can go anywhere with a guitar as well.

 Re: DSI Mopho
I love the feeling of real strings, of a guitar against my body. I don't feel connected to synths, even when i tweak the hell out of them the way i feel connected to an acoustic guitar. Its spiritual.
