 Steal this Book
Found this online - apparently a how-to on fucking the system up the ass. I haven't read much, so I don't know how good or useful it is, but I guess it's worth a look at least, right? http://www.tenant.net/Community/steal/steal.html

 Re: Steal this Book
I've skimmed through about half of it. While some of what is presented therein is interesting and even a little practical, since it was published in 1971, it's a little out of date and I saw a number of things which wouldn't work 36 years later.

 Re: Steal this Book
Haaaaaaaaaaaa this is fucking deadly, man!
Thanks for the hookup! Very reminiscant of the Anarchist's cookbook in its deviousness
Read some really neat things, some very ingenious things, and the whole supermarket section gave me some good laughs...
Alas... People, especially in my generation, seem so fucking passive these days... I've known some people that had balls, or would be classified radical, but there seems to be little cohesion these days
And further, no comradery... There's such a huge split with people these days, they don't want to come together except with their own little niches... Many of them ego and fashion-bent
We're so bloody passive these days... And I know pissing and moaning doesn't help...
TV, Internet, Cellphones, Video Games, social stratification, entertainment, HUGE advances in security measures and technology in general just seem to make people not give a fuck
Makes me sad... I woulda liked to have done some crazy (but still, responsible in its own right) things, and I have in other ways, but man... I dunno.. it's glorious reading about this stuff, but actually doing it would just be the biggest mindfuck
Regardless, I'm going on a tangent, thanks for the link, I'mma keep reading

 Re: Steal this Book
the person who wrote the book, to me, is more intertesting than "steal this book." It's advice is a little outdated. it was sort of symbolic of the age, though, from what I recall.
There was a film done on abby hoffman a few years ago, interesting flick, wish i knew the name of it.
There is a more recent series of books on a similar vien, but it's more of a "how to travel on dirt cheap" it's called "lonely planet"

 Re: Steal this reply
Steal This Book became the manifesto for Americas undergruond college movement in the 60s, back when there was a solid scene. He wrote it while in jail during his federal conspiracy trial that spun out of his work at the 1968 Chicago democratic party presidential riots.
I met him many years later when he came out from underground and wrote 'steal this urine test'. He signed my steal this book and after all those years still got a kick from pointing out to me how he had snuck the word fuck into his hair on the books cover.
Hexfix back in the ST days I think once knew Abbies nephew, captain crook, who was supposed to have gotten the original documents of the book but then didn't when it turned out the will was changed shortly before Abbies death. There were some allegations of political murder but nothing was ever proven.
Abbie Hoffman was sort of in the movie Forrest GUmp- the character with the flag shirt running the protest in DC was heavily based on him. There was also a hbo movie with a lot of hoffman based on the Chicago 7 trial. The Who threw him off stage at Woodstock during their set when he tried to take over and organize the crowd politically.
