'Black Holes and Time Warps: Einstein's Outrageous Legacy' by Kip S. Thorne.

I tried reading this first in early high school and since it was really my first intro to anything related to quantum physics, it was rather over my head (though Kip does a pretty good job of making it not too technical and rather digestible). So far so good on second reading!

Clive Barker's Books of Blood
these are an on-again off-again favorite of mine
some of the stories really stick out, leave an impression in one way or another

right now i'm really fond of The Yattering and Jack
Jack is the hero
just a regular guy in a regular situation
and the Yattering is his Demon
sent to destroy his will
break his spirit
and claim his soul for Hell
but Jack is wise to the Demon
but he doesn't let it show
that's his tactic
to the point of stupidity he does not feel
see
or acknowledge it's presence
it's an incredible story
like a game of chess played out slowly move by move
it chronicles the painstaking battle of wits
and endurance
and has an epic conclusion
most dramatic in it's fashion

i highly recommend :)

Stephen King - 11/22/63

Love his style, it always gives me shivers. And I really love the references to other books he always makes. Just another fragment to the giant universe he'd created and that's still full of stories to be told.

Haven't read that one yet. I enjoy Stephen King too, for the most part. However, NEVER, EVER bother to read "Gerald's Game" if you haven't already. It's over 200 pages of someone cuffed to a bed having flashbacks to a bad childhood experience.

„The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon“, that was bad^^

11/22/63 has also some parts that are boring but I'm not finished yet, so I don't know how good it really will be.

THis is one of my favorite threads, I love to see what you all are reading... mostly because I love to read myself, and I've discovered some goodies among your suggestions.

a recent read:

Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker, a fairly recent offering by the master of fantasy horror, this is not like his older works, but still interesting. Told in the first person from the perspective of a pathetic demon who kills his father and ends up on earth, it's a fantasy romp through history with a touch of humor, and almost seems like a children's book (Barker has been writing children's books these days, although I've not read any of them), except for the occasional reference to extreme gore and mutilation. It's an entertaining read but not a great book - the edition I borrowed from the library was made of faux-aged paper, which was a beautiful touch. Throughout the the work, the demon addresses the reader directly, and demands that you burn the book - and this device, to me, gets a little tiresome ... but by the end of the book, makes a kind of sense.

^ Clive Barker's "The Thief of Always" is a great 'children's book.' Basic plot is that a kid gets tricked into staying in a magical land beyond our own where all four seasons and all major holidays play out each day (Christmas in the morning, Halloween at night, etc.). Interesting for kids and adults!

And regarding Stephen King, I just started "Lisey's Story." Not sure if I am going to finish it, I am reasonably interested but it is sooooo long. And if "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" was WORSE than "Gerald's Game" then NO THANK YOU for me.
