 Mass Effect 1 & 2
Now that Mass Effect 3 is out, i was told by a friend to check out part 1 and 2 on my PS3. Are they really worth it? -Sin

 Re: Mass Effect 1 & 2
They're alright. They pretty much define the "RPG Shooter" genre. You get some skills to spread around, story to experience, the pace of the game isn't constant rushing and battling (places to explore and people to talk to) and the music is great.
I'm not trying to be a snob when suggesting this but if you can, reading the two Mass Effect books by Drew Kapshyn (the guy behind the ME game stories) would really help with the immersion factor. Especially if you read the first book he released before playing the first game. It's a prequel to that game. Very cool.

But I'll keep thinking about it. -Sin

 Re: Mass Effect 1 & 2
I would advise you to play both of them first if you plan on playing Mass Effect 3. This is a very storydriven trilogy and aside from the story and the way thats projected there isnt much to it. Its still a fun game if you take those aspects away, but you wouldnt care for what happens as much.
I have played Mass Effect 1 once and I am now replaying ME2 for the third time, because I wanted to refresh on the story before starting on ME3. I also wanted to try some DLC because I never tried those back in the day. I didnt look forward to playing ME2 again, but I am now 11 hours in and just loving it all over again.

 Re: Mass Effect 1 & 2
The only problem with that is that the first Mass Effect was not released on the ps3, only 2 and 3. Mass effect 2 did include a digital comic book that gives you the rough story of 1 and lets you recreate the major decisions from 1.
I played fully through 1 when I briefly had a 360, so I still had a great experience with 2 with all of my decisions intact.
I fully endorse playing it, I love the story and presentation of the series.
