well i wasn't defending the people that don't buy music at all. yes, most of us can afford to grab a few cds a year. the problem lies in the fact that people 10 years ago didn't have as hard of an economy and had an easier time finding a job. they were still able to pirate music, but they bought cds more often because they could afford it. people now a days are making a lot less money in comparison (after the cost of living is factored in) and thus instead of having money to buy cds from all the artists they like, they only pick their favorite artists. so the people that are left buying vac cds are just your most hardcore fans. if the economy picked up then some of the people who are on the fence about buying your cd but instead choose to download it because they don't have as much money would perhaps be able to buy it instead.
i gotta get to work in a sec, but perhaps later on i'll post a picture of my online bank statement and show you that i'm not full of shit. i only have like 8 bucks in there right now. i did already buy the album. but my point is i couldn't afford it right now if you were to release another one like next week. i have A LOT of things i have to pay for, and after the end of every month i only have a little bit of spending money. and i've met people who like vac but are in even worse financial situations then i'm in.
times ARE hard and people would be a lot more likely to buy your cd if they weren't poor as hell. now is that to say that everyone who pirates your album can't afford to buy it? no! definitely not. i think a lot more people SHOULD buy your album. but when it comes to the end of the month and you only have 8 bucks left in your account you don't have much of a choice.
and things don't get progressively better every month. yes, you can save money for a cd you want, but not everyone is gonna save their very small amount of spending money for a new vac cd. again, i think more people should, but unfortunately other people choose other things that they find more important. what can ya do?
for the record though, i'm not trying to flame or anything. i'm just reporting what i've seen. a lot of my friends aren't doing well off at all. i'm not doing that much better. people who would otherwise be willing to buy a vac album (and maybe even have bought like fwk in the past) can't afford it right now. 9 dollars doesn't seem like much, but if after rent, utilities, car payments, car insurance, phone bills, food, medical bills, etc you don't have 9 bucks, then you're not just gonna go out and buy a bunch of cds from bands you wanna support. realistically it's insanely hard just to buy one cd from one artist you like.
