Re: Favorite Vac song and why?
This is not necessarily my absolute favorite song (only because that's difficult to determine), but it's the one I've been thinking about the most these past few months.
Caught.
Every time I listen to it, or at least here lately, I've thought about the scene from Bram Stoker's Dracula, when Dracula is walking down the street, passing all the locals, who are completely unaware of his presence and the potential for evil and destruction contained within him. The lyrics, from beginning to end, seem to fit the film very well, and I can't help but conjure up that image in my mind whenever I hear it.
To me, "Caught" is like an expression of Dracula's purely monstrous side, his frustration with his eternal pain, and out of that frustration, him lapping up all the blood he can devour, to spite his condition, and god, with unrestrained over-indulgence, as if to say, "All right. You want blood? Murder? Death? I'll give it all to you, and more. In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen."
This scene shows Dracula walking down the street. It emphasizes his tenderness toward Mina, but I think it demonstrates, at least in part, his incredible, compounded rage toward god, the world, and his condition.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCirK6psNoUI don't know if this was necessarily the original message of the song, or FWK for that matter, but that's what I take away from it as an isolated song, at least for the moment.
