Fun With Knives. The fun of making this LP was no fucking fun. Band mate bolted half way through, worked with two new people who ended up getting a divorce before it was over. I still ended up doing 80% of everything. Oh this was the lp that led me to not work with people anymore. That being said. This was the last song written for the LP. It was a filler track. I wrote it in 6 hours, when I was in the zone. It was an accidental track. I was not even trying its like it just spit out of me. That is the strange thing about the success of this song, and a hard lesson I had to learn. When you try and try to make something great, the best things often happen when you don’t try and are not even expecting anything. Work ethic is what leads to this success. This song was a solo effort after everyone left the band. The last song, and I also finished the remix wars with Funker Vogt during this period alone as well.

Gear: Mackie 1404 main mix summed on mackie vlz pro into Adat and Echo Layla into cubase, then vocals tracked into cubase vst 5 and summed again with vox in cubase. Synths: Emu e6400 sampler loaded. TOUR NEWS 2013

We have decided To cut back, we cannot afford to bring a drummer this time. Todd and I will be the only people on stage. I will play keys and do Vox in VAC, Todd will do Keys and Guitars. In Twilight Garden I will do Keys and Todd will do Keys, Guitars, and Vocals. We will buy some lights this time, and we will make sure we have better video I hope. We tried to add the band synapse to the bill, but I had already booked most of the tours and the local bands are already locked in, and some places have late start times so it was not worth it for them to spend all that money to play in front of a smaller crowd because most people do not show up until later. $ bands starting late, is not good. We will try very hard to put on a very good show. I have fixed the live set list. We are playing a little more from FWK and COTD now, and few classic tracks. Its like we are playing all the hits. I hope we play some of the remixes for the Twilight Garden show as well.

Tour News. Both East and South are locked in. Wont print dates until I lock in with contracts but this is the face and reality of the tour.

I got a call at 3am. My video gaming buddy in tears. His mother had passed. I did my best to console him. I am a very empathetic person and I feel it when other people are in pain. It transferred to me. That week I wrote this song. It took me 1 day to write all the parts and record them, about 1 week to track the vocals. Inspired by that night, and dedicated to his mother. This is the 2nd time I have written a track for this reason. Death… Song is very dear to me and to Krztov.. The video is amazing, and does the song justice. With a heavy heart I praise this work. This song is about dying before you can have the future that was promised. I fail part is like the ghost of the person who passes. Its very disturbing to me and still sometimes it makes me very uneasy.

Fate is a strange thing. I wanted to recapture my glory days, fun with knives and calling of the dead so bad. But I ran into a problem. Midi on PCs and MACS has jitters, meaning nothing sounds tight and awesome. Everything sounds sloppy and shitty. During this time of frantically trying to get old ataris to work, and akai asq stuff I decided to buy MACS only to find midi was crap there too. So instead. I just made loops and played guitars over them. At the time I was listening to a lot of old Death in June and Current 93. So I was like ok, lets do something new and different for VAC.

That was a bitch, my label at the time dependent told me it was crap, drums were to repetitive, that this would never sell or be popular. Still I ran out of time to change it. I like simple drums in death in june so i tried it too. Any how, The art of breaking apart did ok, but not as good as some other records. Still after the time passes I come back and listen to this and go WOW, that’s me. Its crazy.

Gear: Martin guitar into akg c 451b mic, into never clone, into distressors, into fireface 800 into macbook pro. Vocals sm57 into the same chain with the ksp8. Some Kontakt 2 piano through the ksp8, Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass that I am selling into neve clone into distressor.

Used: Spectrasonics Atmosphere layered with the kontakt 2 choir patch from a good sample lib, i programmed a soft pretty arp sound on the jupiter 8, and sequenced it in, Also made some sync lfo filter drop sound fx i play leads with on the juptier 8, Sh2 does the supper tight snappy bass, everything through reverbs on the ksp8. Drum fills as well, the main lead at the end is the access virus C, a hard sync fm sound that just sounds evil and hard. It is why I love the virus so much to this very day. The super huge filter sweep is a jupiter 8 in unison, and no software even comes close. All recorded into cubase sx 2 and summed in the box. Mastered by Brain Big Bass Gardner. Song was written in about 6 hours. GOD I MISS MY JUPITER 8, I could make it evil or pretty, so lush.

Todd was having a rough night on the keyboard in the vac studio, we did not get anything done on this day while working on lust for blood. I told todd, I want something like the solo edward kaspel stuff, and I think I even played him some stuff. He went home that night, and sent me a midi file after he did this 1 and half minute string arrangement. I got it the next morning, and produced the song and wrote the bass, drums, and arps all in a few hours. In my personal opinion it is the best song on lust for blood. I tried to sing to it, and i still have vocals for it, but i just felt the song was so pretty and i left it alone. I think i sang over it once live. Not sure if I will ever again…

These videos are phenomenal. And of all the songs to choose, this song brings tears to my eyes still, dedicated to one of my X’s mothers who was murdered, it broke my heart and this song is my reflection of the sorrow i felt. When my X emailed me about it, it was like a ghost came in through the circuits. I tried to make the song sound like the angels were carrying souls above, but the storms drove it all to hell, the storms of grief of losing someone.

I was very alone at this point in my life, all friends left, moved. No love for a few years. Dire, all relationships disintegrating before my eyes, the forum dying, the net killing music and my income, the sense of loneliness i felt, i captured it in this song. When your left with nothing and no one, your faith dies in all things. I came up with it on my acoustic guitar, sang and wrote it all in one take, I went back and added drums and synths and strings.. Inspired by Death In June.

Trying to make a spooky dance song, I came up with something kind of reminding me of a more musical Halloween theme song (the one from the 70s horror cult classic). The song is metaphoric of some of my drug trips and my god complexes. Like If I were god, i would blow you all away.

Here it is. The finished product. I want to thank everyone who worked on it. It is like a short horror film. Very Dario Argento like. Argento is my favorite film maker. Suspiria, Tenebre, Opera are my favorite horror films of all time. I was so happy when Dustin sent me a message about wanting to do this. Seeing some of his other work convinced me this was the way to go. I want to work with him in the future as well. Would love to write music for his films. Or even work on a film with him in some way.

With Maldire, I tapped into the anger of the fallen. The pagans and non christians who were burned alive for being witches, or strange or pagan. Talk to a cat, into the fire. Anal sex, Into the fire. Say anything bad about the christian beliefs, into the fire. The priests of this time period also blamed the pagans for the mini ice age that led to shortages in food. Claimed that the pagans pissed off GOD so they had to kill them all. This did not bring an end to the mini ice age either. What a joke. The Dark AGES woooo. Granted, christians do not own oppressive behavior, seems like most all religions and mob mentalities therein have this wonderful fascism built into them. I chose this because my heritage is very scarred by the christians of yester year. I see this oppression still. Now more towards gay people. It makes me sick. I hate the mob mentality, vigilante justice. Idiots who think they are right and should have the right to take others lives because their stupid morality thinks its superior to all others. No way. This is a fictional tale. In no way do I support murder in the real world. The scary part is, in the future I see food issues, and I am willing to bet the christians are going to come after the goths, the pagans, the gays, and the atheists this time. Be afraid. Be very afraid. History has a sick way of repeating itself.

In other VAC news. Todd Loomis and I have patched things up. He has a tour van. He said he wants to play guitar for VAC and go on the road. This means I have steve and todd now. Stoked. Working out details. Going to try and set up a Velvet Acid Christ / Twilight Garden tour/mini tours. We want to play Canada, we want to play the usa, We have been invited to play on the goth cruise(not sure about that one yet). We are not sure about europe yet. We might be able to make some of the festivals in 2013. As it stands right now, I want to go out maybe this december, maybe feb, maybe march. We are working on it. Just so you know. Live shows “WILL” HAPPEN! Its for for certain. I am working out the stage art, theme, look of the band. Todd will have a new LP out soon with the twilight garden. I am so happy to have Todd back in the fold. He really is the most talented musician I have ever worked with.

Below is the second video off the LP “The Art of Breaking Apart”. I really like how I blended the acoustic guitar into this brutal psy trance track. This is one of my favorite songs on the LP and it really features my modular and my future retro revolution. To me this is one of the best sounding things I have ever made from a production stand point. Hope you enjoy.

News: Doing a lot of pre production for the new LP I am working on, organizing and arranging my synth sounds and patch presets. Setting up my drum kits, wiring up the mixer, getting everything labeled. I am nervous to start working again, I have some songs already written, just not recorded or produced. I have 2 guitar tracks. I want to remake some songs from Oblivion Interface. Namely Fried and Cease to Understand. I will never again make long lps, I will do lps that are 8 to 9 tracks long MAX from here on out, and try to make the songs way better, quality not quantity. I plan to do 2 singles for each lp I do. So maybe I will include one single on the LP as a ltd edition in the future. So I am already underway. I think the art of breaking apart has done well. I hope it sells better. I am also looking for a live band now. VAC is now 100% a solo project. I am looking for people who can play guitar and keyboards and drum pads live though, I am on the look out, must be in Colorado. I will not play with people who do not know how to play, so I must find WEIRD talented people for the job. I also plan to do some more synth reviews for this site. I will post some in the near future.

I love my new set up, Mopho, Trinity, Virus A, Nord Lead 2, Jp-8080, AN1x(master controller, love it), Emu e6400 ultra, Logic 8, ksp8 fx, Distressors x2, Pcm96, Amt8, Apogee Duet, + Komplete Software(will barely use it, i’m a hardware freak). I’m no longer an analog snob. I want to use thinner sounds, and layer more, make more complex mixes. I find this easier to do with the old virtual analogs, the first generation ones I find sound the best. No more track by track recording. I will run it all live like I did in the old days. This gear set up is pretty close to what I had during the calling of the dead and fun with knives era of my career. I hope the fast work flow and sounds will allow for a more up beat and aggressive sound like I had back then. Time will tell. I have way better drum production this time. I hope it pays off. I will keep you up to date.
