Games: RPG: Oblivion, PS3. Disease Factory’s Take.

I can honestly say that I am not a huge fan of western style RPGS. I got sick of the tolken universe in the 80s on the commodore 64. Back in the day all that was made were games like ultima and pool of radiance etc etc, Elves, Orks, Conan etc etc. It got real old to me long ago. So when final fantasy 7 came out, it was something new and industrial and different. That set the tone for me for years to come. But now, an old style RPG with a modern combat sytem has raised its head. This time with lion creatures, and reptile humanoids and a new spin on the tolken style universe. Well, it’s a continuation of the elder scrolls universe which I never really got into. It works. And I actually like it. It looks amazing, and yes it runs a lot better on the ps3 when compared to the xbox 360. This world is huge. The amount of options you have when customizing your character simply baffles me. You can play this game in so many ways. The universe is really big, there are a lot of towns and villages that are not even on the map. I have experienced things in this RPG that I never have in any other. Like sleeping in a town where no one likes you, to wake up to someone trying to kill you. WOW. Joining dark occult underground groups. Guilds are typical here. You can choose to be good or evil. If you get caught steeling, the guards chase you. Some of the most fun I had when I was first playing this, was being chased through 2 villages by the police knights. ahahahah. Very funny. they kept coming. Below, to get the video trailer to play please click on the “Elder Scrolls IV - PS3 Trailer” text in the player window.

I had no idea that you could fast travel by using the map when I first started playing. So I wandered all over the map on foot. I got to see a ton of amazing things during this initial trek. The load times are kind of annoying at times, but no real big deal. This game is so big it is kind of overwhelming at first. You can use so many different kind of weapons and magick. You have to repair your weapons and armor over time, they do take damage. So managing your stuff is very important in this game. You must take on side quests to make money so you can get new armor and weapons and fix what you all ready have. The main story is very good, the voice acting is actually good. If you only follow the main story, you get at least 35 to 40 hours of game play.

obliv10b.jpg

This game despite being a launch title still looks amazing and holds its own against some of the newer games that have come out. Some of the level design is amazing. Just wandering around in the mountains can deliver some breath taking scenery. I seriously have not had this much fun with an RPG since the original playstation. I was really disappointed in most of the RPGS on the ps2. ffx was ok, but nothing captured my heart like ff7, ff9, and chrono cross on the ps2. So far, yes, a western rpgs is really winning me over. Oblivion, seriously, this is that good. Its nothing like a japanese rpg, but it is so polished and well done it doesn’t matter.

oblivion4.jpg

There are all kinds of dungeons all over the world. You will find so many places to go and look for things and fight monsters. This game is huge. And the story is great fun. Some of the missions you go on really make you think strategically. This is not just a hack and slash, if you try and fight a lot of things at once when you first start, you will most certainly die. This game is far more realistic when it comes to battle. This is one of the things that really makes this stand out. The game mechanics are not this toy soldier crap that so many rpgs offer. You have to be nimble, think, and use skills and strategy to fight your opponents. You will upgrade some of your statistics when you level up. But you get better at things the more you do them. The more you jump and use your sword, the better you get at it. Also you have to slash and move in directions to try to dis arm opponents. This is new to me as well. Really adds a kind of arcade feel and skill to it but in a good way that offers challenge. Most rpgs are not hard at all, you can just randomly fight and build up your characters. You have to do that in this as well, but learning how to disarm opponents will really help and add a new dimension to this kind of game. This is a lot more challenging. And if you do all the side quests and try a couple of different character classes, you easily could spend over 100 hours playing this game. This game is huge. I am just talking about the original launch title that came out with the ps3. Not any of the new versions like “game of the year” edition, that includes the shivering isles and knights of nine expansion packs.

9.0 Presentation
This game is not that hard to figure out. The story is great and told from with in the game not stupid cut scenes. Very well done.

9.3 Visuals
Some of the best graphics on the ps3 still even after all this time. The hill sides, the mountains, the water, the statues, the characters, it’s all great.

9.5 Audio
The music really brings everything together. The sound in this game is so far the best I have heard yet. The details are simply amazing. You can hear things sneak up on you, you can hear nature. The music always kicks in and helps the emotions in every situation.

9.0 Game Mechanics
Sure, a mouse and keyboard is still the best when it comes to games like this. But really, the sixaxis analog controls really work well for this game. Really inverted compared to the 360 controls. I will never own a 360 so I could care less.

9.4 Replay
Huge, this game is huge.

9.6 Total Score.
(out of 10 / not an average)

This game is really cheap now. And great if you want a taste of this rpg and what it has to offer. I got mine for 25 bucks new. Amazon is selling it for 29. This is worth every cent. Go buy it Click here to buy Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for PS3.

Games: Super Stardust HD, PS3. Disease Factory’s Take.

December 27th, 2007 by Hexfix93

ssdhd2.jpg

Over all: Asteroids on steroids. This was the first game I bought on the ps3. It’s a download off the Playstation Network. I think i paid like 9.99 for the game. It was worth every cent. This is asteroids. With very pretty 3d graphics. One of the best looking games on the Playstaion 3. It plays amazing. There are 3 types of primary weapons. Ice, Fire, and Green. All very cool and work well against the different types of rocks you encounter from map to map. This is one of those games you can pick up and play for 5 minutes and put down with no stress. For that I really recommend this title. A great arcade shooter that truly is next generation. The game is not that long, and if you are experienced you can beat it in a few hours. But it is so addictive, and gets so hard, it will call you to play it over and over again. The game is not that deep it’s just a simple arcade asteroids type of shooter with boss battles at the end that can be very challenging. There needs to be more games like this on the Playstation Network. Below, to get the video trailer to play please click on the “Super Stardust (PSN) - Trailer” text in the player window.

Games: Warhawk & Omega Dawn Expansion. Disease Factory’s Take.

December 20th, 2007 by Hexfix93

drake 1

Over all: I waited a long time to review this. More than anything I was waiting for the Omega Dawn expansion to come out. Well I have it now, I was able to download it through booting up warhawk even before it hit the playstation network. It was $7.99 and a 144mb download. Ok now, so what is so great about warhawk? I think it captures the PC game feel of capture the flag very well in the over all mechanics. Like in battlefield and unreal tournament 2k4. It feels fast pace. You will have to control areas and take over bases like in onslaught mode in ut2k4, but you never heal the node or anything. You just stand by the flag to take over the base. The graphics look pretty good but won’t win any awards. I must say that the floating sky level looks phenomenal and really gives off that “we are way up in the sky” feeling. The game play is solid. The maps are done right and the areas can be huge or small. There are a lot of vehicles. Tank, Jeep, Warhawk, and the KT-424 drop ship. The flying is where this game has it nailed down. I wasn’t very good at first, because I didn’t know how to control the plane. There are two flying modes, hover and jet. Hit the triangle to switch into jet(and back) because you start in hover. Now it controls like a regular jet. In hover mode you float and use the r2 and l2 to control altitude. In jet mode double tap r2 to get a super boost, and use the right analog stick to do rolls, this is very fun and very effective at shaking off missile locks. Flying around the maps never gets old, Dog fighting never gets old, and that is what saves this title from being a run of the mill generic shooter. For the price, This is a no brainer. Its $39 bucks. With the outrageous prices of games these days, 65+ dollars after tax and shipping. It is nice to get a AA title at a PSP game price. I recommend buying the headset pack if you don’t have a bluetooth head set but that will put you up to 59 dollars. If not, get the regular blueray version for $39. If you get tired of it, you can trade it in or sell it and get some money back. With store downloads, you don’t have that option. Which kind of sucks (I hope they allow you to trade or sell downloaded games on the HOME network when it launches.). The omega Dawn Add on adds a lot of value to the game but brings the price up to about 50 dollars. If you really love the game and are tired of all the maps, this expansion really is the shot in the arm this game needed to stay fresh. The new drop ship adds a totally new gaming experience. You can get in a jeep with the flag, and the drop ship can pick up the jeep with the flag. This is awesome and makes the game a lot more frantic. Below, to get the video trailer to play please click on the “Warhawk - Omega Dawn Booster Pack - Trailer” text in the player window.

Ok what don’t I like about Warhawk? When you start up and log in, you have to agree to the user license over, and over, and over, and over every time you log in to play. THIS SUCKS! There is no single player mode. I like single player a lot, and feel even a sub par single player would of made me like this game a tad bit more. The graphics feel dated, especially after playing call of duty 4 and unreal tournament 3. Everything but the flying has this generic even keel feel and look to it. The character art is not that great. Very ww2 future dystopia, kind of like the Genine in Stargate Atlantis. But honestly those are my only complaints. Because I still play this game a lot, and with the expansion I see myself playing a lot more now that I am tired of Call of Duty and Unreal.

warhawk3.jpg

There are a lot of shooters out on the market. But none of them have the flying of Warhawk, and that is where this game delivers the goods. Even if you have the cream of the crop shooters on the PS3, none of those can give you that sense of flying and dog fighting like Warhawk can. So if planes are your thing, this is your game. Even if its not your thing, this game will win you over. The flying is special, everything else is pulled off well in a generic way, and holds it all together to make this game extremely fun. With friends you can play it split screen as well. Lan, or internet games. The other real highlight is, there are a ton of people playing this. The games don’t lag. There are dedicated servers for this, so none of this “host ended game” crap like on the xbox and call of duty 4. There is also a ranking system, that allows you to unlock mostly costumes and paint for your air craft etc. The good thing about this, and I praise this game over call of duty 4 because of this, the online games seem more even, so the rookies are not forced to play with the high ranking veterans. This really helps people not get overwhelmed when they first start playing.

Seriously, one of the best gaming experiences I ever had was when heavy sausage and I were playing online together, we would strategically park jeeps by the enemy flag then get the flag. The two of us would hop in the jeep. There is nothing like the rush of running away from air craft in the jeep trying to get back in your base with the flag. Driving the jeep is frantic when bogies are on your ass. Then if you are on the back of the jeep(the jeep holds 2), you can shoot down the aircraft chasing you with the machine gun. This is so amazing. One of the best times I have ever had in a game like this. Takes planning, strategy, and team work to get the most out of this game. But seriously, get with some friends and plan it out, and you will love this. Running away in the jeep with the flag is more fun than any other capture the flag I have played even in the AAA titles. So. Don’t look past this one if CTF is your thing.

warhawk2.jpg

6.5 Presentation
No story really. Just multiplayer. The menus are ok, but look kind of dated. But i had no problem finding servers.

7.6 Visuals
The game plays well, with a high frame rate. But you can tell this is due to a kind of bland and generic dated look. It’s not awful, but not at all cream of crop. It’s average. The high frame rate saves this.

8.0 Audio
The music is very well done. Sounds great. The sound fx are good. It’s tight.

8.6 Game Mechanics
The flying mechanics are what make this a AA title.. But every thing else is generic. Over all, GREAT.

9.4 Replay
I bought this last september. I am still playing it. With Omega Dawn and future add ons, this will be a gold mine for years to come.

7.9 Total Score.
(out of 10 / not an average)

This is not a system seller like call of duty 4, uncharted, ratchet and clank, and unreal tournament 3, but it is a nice addition to those AAA titles. And for the price, Warhawk is worth checking out. Go buy it Click here to buy Warhawk for PS3.

Games: Unreal Tournament 3, PS3, Disease Factory’s Take.

December 13th, 2007 by Hexfix93

ut35.jpg

Over all: I really like this game, but it is not perfect. Here is why I like it, I’ll give the good first. It’s fast paced. It’s old school. It plays just like Unreal Tournament 2k4. The same weapons with a new look. The controls are great. The sixaxis controller works really well, it might take some adjustments, it defaults to a slower smoother sensitivity, but if you want it to be twitchy like the pc version you can make it so. The graphics are indeed amazing. Not in the way we have come to expect though, this is gorgeous grime. Ut2k4 had this glassy glossy metallic look to it. This looks like they threw mud and oxidation on that and up’d the textures and bump maps. With cobble stone ground in some areas. Some of the more sci fi space maps are simply mind blowing. The good thing is that there are a lot of levels, and they vary immensely depending on the game type you are playing. To big and open to tight and claustrophobic, it is all here. The single player is decent enough and lets you get your head around the levels before going into multiplayer. I recommend playing the single player for a while honestly, I’ll explain why later in the cons. The new vehicles are amazing, The hover board adds a lot to the ctf levels. The Necris vehicles are where it is at though, The Necris Darkwalker is fracking amazing. There is another tentacle vehicle that rolls up into a ball, this is a blast as well. The aliens look awesome and intimidating. The cut scenes look great and high def. I also like the design of the new levels. This makes it a huge step up from 2k4. Below, to get the video trailer to play please click on the “Unreal Tournament III - Sinlge Player Trailer” text in the player window.

Now lets talk about what i don’t like. There is this strange future orient theme to some of levels that I don’t care for. I don’t like the gears of war meat head roided out super dumb military jock(all they need to add is a football helmet) characters that dominate the single player story, no neck Barry Bonds anyone? If mankind’s future is in the hands of these dumb jocks, please help us. They all look like they are wearing over sized futuristic moonboots as well, and does not fit well with how fast the game is, nothing that big and bulky and clumsy looking could possibly move as fast and nimble as they do. I think the art direction is way off here. Maybe it worked for gears of war, but it does not work at all here. Gears was a slow game. One good spin though, I am not stuck playing these characters in multiplayer, I can choose to play as the aliens, and then I get to shoot these dumb jocks, so there is a reward after all. This plays more like a cracked out quake. What is hurting the multiplayer more than anything is this rushed release and limited supplies. So when you get on a death match server its fine, but ctf is barren, hardly anyone playing, and the pings suck. I think this will pick up when the supplies are better and more people buy the game. After xmas things should get better. Everyone is still playing call of duty 4. This feels a little dated but I don’t care. They catered to much to the die hard unreal fans, and I think this may hurt them a little in the end. The 16 player limit is annoying. Seriously, some of those ctf maps are so huge, and only 8 people per side makes it feel like a barren wasteland with no one to fight at times. They should of slimed down the levels once they limited the player count to 16(maybe they plan on expanding the player limit later, who knows). Honestly, I think they wanted everyone to use the hover board more in these areas, so that makes sense and takes some getting used to. I am willing to bet, once the server are more active, this will not be as big of an issue. The documentation does not explain how in game voice chat works with your head set. I’m still trying to figure this out, I have read, that it is in this game. I hope it is.

ut3 hut hut

So much is done right though. This plays extremely well, it’s tight and solid. The framerate is good even when a lot of stuff is going on. I recommend doing the full install, many people have reported bugs when playing it from the blueray dvd disc, so in the options do the full install, this may help relieve some of the problems from what I have read on various forums. Oh and let us not forget MOUSE AND KEYBOARD support on ps3. This is amazing. I thought I was over mouse and keyboard controls because of how used I got to the sixaxis in resistance and call of duty 4. Then I hooked up my USB mouse and keyboard, and started playing this. Oh man. I missed this control scheme so much. And playing this hd game with these controls on my 34inch trinitron xbr hd tv is a dream come true. This is what I was waiting for the whole time. I am going to demand this feature from now one in all first person shooters on the PS3. UT3 has it, now all the other fps games need to patch their games to have it as well. This is a MUST! Granted, I had to set up a tv tray to put my mouse and keyboard on, I didn’t care.. ahahha.

resistance 2

What sets this apart from other first person shooters? I think the warfare mode (used to be called onsalught in 2k4) is what sets it apart from the others. Ok I think the mechanics win out, and I prefer the fast game play, I get annoyed with how sluggish cod4 feels sometimes, this is the perfect cure for that. Warfare adds a lot to the team work and strategy of multiplayer fps games. You must take over nodes that connect to the enemies hq, once you have a path built and maintained and connected to the enemy hq, you can attack the hq core, once that is destroyed, your team wins. The nodes are cool. You have to guard them, and heal them with the link gun’s alt fire mode. This is my favorite multiplayer mode of all time, and what made me keep coming back to the dated unreal tournament 2004. I prefer the new version in UT3, They improved on it. This makes me very happy.

ut37

6.5 Presentation
The hd graphics rock, the art direction screwed up the humans to make them all look and sound like stupid jocks. The menus are last gen, I prefer how call of duty handles it’s online stuff. But it was cool that my buddy joined me when I thought I was playing single player campaign mode.

8.5 Visuals
This game looks amazing on a good 720p display. Explosions rock, the new giant vehicles rock, the bigger tanks rock. The space themed maps are amazing. The weapons look great. The textures are nice and gritty. Dystopia industrial hell look to everything. The animation is spot on as well. This is what they got right.

4.0 Audio
This is crap. The music blows. The Audio quality sounds so compressed, the visuals look so amazing, and the sound is so crunchy and awful, there is no excuse for this. Don’t even get me started on the voice acting and dialogue, beyond awful, the way they use swear words is annoying and I usually am a fan of the crass as well, so that is really saying something. The bots swear at you and act like douche bags, and you cannot turn it off. This is so annoying.

9.7 Game Mechanics
This is old school gaming. Plays just like UT2k4. The sixaxis controls are spot on. But where this game simply pulls away when compared to other first person shooters on the ps3 is MOUSE AND KEYBOARD support. Way better controls than the sixaxis. Not kidding. Every fps should support MOUSE AND KEYBOARD on PS3. Sony needs to pressure the developers to add this to their games! This will give it the edge over any console, even the WII.

9.5 Replay
Multiplayer Capture The Flag with vehicles, there is nothing else out there like this, simply amazing. This is fast and frantic, makes other games feel like they are stuck in quicksand. Even Call of Duty 4 feels sluggish after playing this. Sony has opened up the ps3 development unlike anyone else. Epic will put out tools soon to allow users to make their own maps and graphics for this game. This game has a bright future, this is only the beginning.

8.3 Total Score.
(out of 10 / not an average)

And on my final note. I bought my ps3 because of this game, even before it came out, they announced the mouse and keyboard support, so for me, this is a system seller if you are rabid 2k4 fan like me. This is what sets the ps3 apart from the 360 as well. Mouse and Keyboard support. Finally the pc gaming experience in the living room. This is the first to deliver it. This game is not that innovative in the game play department. It feels old school, but the first to give us pc old school in the living room. That is fine by me, because unreal tournament 2004 was my favorite multiplayer fps ever made. If you loved ut2k4, then this is perfect for you. If you like call of duty 4, or graw2 or rainbow 6, this might totally throw you off. But these should not be compared, because they are totally different game experiences. The new vehicles give me enough to look past the fact that it is pretty much a retread of 2k4 with updated graphics. They changed onslaught mode to warfare mode, pretty much the same. The graphical updates on the CORES you blow up really convince you that you are damaging it, in 2k4 it was hard to tell visually, there are a lot of new details like this that refine the game above 2k4. I really like this game despite some of it’s short comings. I say this is a buy and not a rent because the user created content will be coming soon. Go buy it: Click here to buy UT3 for PS3.

After playing more, I’m adding this to the review. With mouse and keyboard control, there is no way to lower the raptors altitude, you can raise it by using the spacebar. I cannot find a key to lower it back down. I even checked the keyboard settings. No crouch control. So this totally sucks for playing those types of vehicles with mouse and keyboard. On the sixaxis you press in the analog sticks to raise and lower the raptor.. WTF.. I keep my sixaxis close. If I need to go down in the craft I just use the sixaxis for a sec. Another way is to eject and fall and hit e again to re board as your falling, cause the craft falls too. Also, your comrade soldiers have horrid AI, I mean as stupid as door nails. Ok, I forgot to mention the orbs, in warfare mode, you get these orbs that will take over a node with full health if you get it there without dying. The other soldiers always grab the orb, and then don’t deliver it. I’ve seen them with in 2 feet of the node, just standing there, or chasing after something else. More than anything i want to grab it, but they do first. Sometimes I just shoot at them for grabbing it, to bad there is no friendly fire. The most idiotic and frustrating thing i have seen in a video game for a really long long time. It fits right in with the art design, ball hog dumb jocks. Must of been how they wanted it. They had better fix this, it’s so damn annoying. Also, In the more advanced levels, it starts to slow down when there is a lot of action. Sometimes even the enemies will be napping, I mean dead still staring into oblivion, sometimes they jump to life, sometimes the just get shot and die with out reacting at all. I’m going to lower the score from an 8.6 to an 8.3 because of it. In multiplayer it’s not a big deal, but in single player campaign mode, it’s a huge deal. They had better fix these issues with a patch soon or I will be very pissed off.

Music Listened to while writing this review: Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll, Treasure, Pinkopake.

PS: The only reason call of duty 4 gets a higher score, is because the single player in cod4 is a must have experience. The art direction is better in cod4 as well. and the sound in cod4 is better too. Buy cod4 first, then this. Well, unless you prefer face paced action and mouse and keyboard, then its a no brainer, UT3 all the way.

Games: Resistance: The Fall of Man, PS3, Disease Factory’s Take.

December 6th, 2007 by Hexfix93

resistance ps3 3

Over all: This was the first game I played on the playstation 3, at first I was not that impressed by it because I was playing it in 480i on a normal tv, but once I got 720p going, we were blown away. Todd and I played this together in split screen co-op mode. I wish more games had this. This is a typical first person shooter. Although there are a large amount of bad guys on the screen at once with no slow down, this is a real plus. The details are amazing as well. The game has this very drab look to it as well. There is no cover behind walls as in uncharted or ghost recon advanced war 2. So it is more like Doom, or Quake in over all game play. It does have that frantic fast urgent feel like unreal tournament as well. This is fine by me. I loved how panicked I felt when those bugs came after me for the first time. If you are into first person shooters, this is a must. The visuals have this grim grey look to them, but i love it. kind of like a Fincher movie. Not to mention that i love alien sci-fi stuff as well. Below, to get the video trailer to play please click on the “Resistance - UK Launch Trailer” text in the player window.

After all, this was made by the developers who also made Ratchet and Clank. So the weapons are very well done as they are in those games. I think that is what really sets this shooter apart from the others, The over all look of the game is like a WW2 shooter meets alien invasion with that Fincher(director of seven, the movie) drab look to everything. The online play is great, 40 player death match, and 16 player capture the flag. Seriously, 40 players, this is a first on a console. Another aspect of this game is ammunition management, because there seems to be a shortage of it, making you rely mostly on your stock weapons through most of the game. You can expect about 14 hours of game play in the single player mode. The enemy AI is ok, but could be better, they react to gun fire, but oblivious to grenades. This is a launch title, and still holds up even a year later. There are downloadable add ons for this game from the playstation network as well, some new multiplayer maps mostly. You can find this title used for a good price i think. So be sure and check this out if you have a ps3 and are bored.

resistance 2

6.0 Presentation
Most of the story is told with a slide show feel to it with still images and narration. This was fine on the ps1, not the ps2 and ps3.

8.2 Visuals
This is where the game shines, the detail, the muscles, the teeth, the environments are all at a level never seen before this game was released. The weapons fire, The boss battles. This game is pretty in that drab way.

8.0 Audio
Standard typical music. The voice acting is good however, and does make the story interesting despite the sub-par dated presentation. Gun fire and weapons sound great.

8.5 Game Mechanics
This was the game that broke my teeth on console first person shooters. It was a good thing, it taught me well. It handles great, aiming is smooth, and what i like about ps3 controls for this more than mouse and keyboard is, the screen all ways moves smoothly, it doesn’t jerk the screen around like mouse controls does.

8.0 Replay
The single player has a rewards type system, so it is cool to play through it at least 2 times. The multiplayer is great, especially the death match, which i think is the best console death match on the market, even better than call of duty 4. Capture the flag is kind weak though.

8.6 Total Score.
(out of 10 / not an average)

And on my final note. This company made two AAA titles in one year, This, and Ratchet and Clank. So we know the ps3 doesn’t have to have frame rate issues, and that it is not as hard to make games on despite some people’s lazy i’ll founded claims, BS, this company has shown what you can do and still probably hasn’t even tapped into 50% of the power under the hood of the ps3. Seriously, this company rocks and deserves money for their great efforts. You should be able to find this used at a game store or go buy it new: Click here to buy Resistance for PS3.

Games: Pain on PS3, Disease Factory’s Take.

December 2nd, 2007 by Hexfix93

pain ps3 3

Over all: Fun Fun Fun. Cheap Cheap Cheap. $9.99 us. WOW. Gotta have a ps3 connected to the psn network. But seriously, out of all the downloadable games I have seen on the wii, the 360 and the ps3, this one takes the cake. For real. Hilarious. This is a get drunk, or something and sit and play type of game, alone or with a bunch of friends. This is what the JACKASS game only wishes it could have been. In PAINDEMONIUM mode you basically shoot a person with a giant sling shot, aim him at things and try to cause as much damage to stuff as you can. It’s cool, you can pose in the air, grab when you land or hit something, and control the person while he or she is in the air, afterwards as you rack up the pain, you get an ouch meter, which allows you to nudge the player with the D-PAD while he is still moving in directions, to rack up points. The goal is to get is to cause the most damage in dollars. My High so far is about 2 million, but on the leaderboards I have seen high scores of 29 million. WOW. The other modes are mime MIME TOSS, this is where you grab onto a mime while you are launched and then let go of him and aim him into glass panes, pretty cool, but my least favorite of the 3 single player modes. The last mode is called SPANK THE MONKEY , this is where you aim and shoot at monkeys that are randomly placed all over the city. This is addictive, and there are so many ways to rack up point, hidden areas, and ways to control the out come. Mutliplayer, it’s not online from what i can tell. It gives you bowling, HORSE, like in basketball. BOWLING, the title says it all. And FUN WITH EXPLOSIONS, in which you try to hit the most explosive boxes laid out on the course. Below, to get the video trailer to play please click on the “Pain (PSN) - Still Painful in the UK Trailer” text in the player window.

This game is small though, you can download 2 extra player characters to play as, but as far as I can tell, there is just the one city. But it doesn’t matter, it only costs 10 bucks! I cant stop playing this. If they add more areas, and more stuff in the future, this is going to be a priceless game. I’m serious, I have not had this much fun playing a game since mariocart on the SNES. This is a Gimmick Game, but, it is one of the best ever. The controls are complex, and there is a lot you can control. I would say that this game reminds me of the crash modes in the Burnout racing games. Those are a ton of fun too. I highly recommend this. This is a must have. It’s the type of game you can pick up and play easily for 5 minutes and put down, or you can spend days endlessly trying to get the highest score ever. The PS3 just keeps getting gold. These games cannot be found on any other system. NICE

7.5 Presentation
It does its job. Menus are ok, and the images and text while it loads are pretty well done.

8.0 Visuals
There are ton of objects in this city to break, a lot, there is a ton of detail, 720p only, too bad its not 1080p. It has this cartoon like feel, kind of like a Tattoo artist style. It doesn’t blow you away, but it is neat to look at.

9.0 Audio
I love the music, it fits perfect. I love the sound fx a lot, the grunts and groans make the game! I love when you go near certain parts or buldings you can hear music, or people. There is this one place with this really funny country music that sounds like popeye singing to it. Made me laugh.

9.2 Game Mechanics
Once you get the hang of it, it is simply amazing. This is what it is all about. It plays great. It is complex, but anyone can get the hang of it after a couple of tries. Very well done. The game physics are great too, like how things fall and break and crash.

9.0 Replay
It is so rewarding to punish these characters. There is nothing like watching someone flail around with rag doll physics while getting hit by cars, bouncing off buildings, being blown up, or nailing monkeys. As it is, it is very re-playable, but if they add more towns and scenarios this could be one of those “CULT CLASSICS” that never gets old. As it is, it lacks variety. If they fix that, then this is a AAA title down the road.

9.0 Total Score.
(out of 10 / not an average)

FUN FUN FUN! A Must have. It’s only 10 bucks! Go buy it now! and have fun..
