Music: Brown Book by Death In June, Disease Factory’s Take.

lfb2 Brown Book
  1. Heilige Tod
  2. Touch Defiles
  3. Hail! The White Grain
  4. Runes and Men
  5. To Drown a Rose
  6. Red Dog - Black Dog
  7. The Fog Of the World
  8. We Are The Lust
  9. Punishment Initiation
  10. Brown Book
  11. Burn Again
  12. Hail! The White Grain (reprise)
  13. To Drown A Rose (reprise)
  14. Runes and Men (reprise)

So catchy, the songs are mostly short and sweet, to the point. Great harmonies. I love how the vocals are not perfect, instead they emote in this great way, some times they are slightly out of key, but to good effect, it adds this drone and drab to the vocals that really makes them perfect to me in creating that death in june sound. This pretty much is current 93 with Douglas P leading(this lp), well the line up on this lp any way. It is death in june, but David Tibet and Rose Mcdowell really are great on this and very present. For me it is Rose’s voice that really hypnotizes me and keeps me coming back to this record, but Douglas does a fantastic job as well, especially on touch defiles and Hail! the white grain. I started out as a Current 93 fan before the david became a born again christian, but now, I have gone back and bought all the Death in June and found it superior in every way. Douglas P is amazing. One of my idols. Not to mention he still makes great music unlike most of my idols these days.

The live video above is very different from the studio version on this lp. But you will get the idea. Death in June has done a lot of different music, many claim they invented neo folk. But to me, death in june is a genre unto itself. Because they have done so many styles over the years it is hard to put a label on them. This lp in particular is very acoustic guitar driven, and the drums are kind of like old old sisters of mercy. Very drum machine sounding. Love it. We are the lust, you can hear the coil guys making a guest appearance. My Favorite tracks on this LP are: Touch Defiles, Hail! the white grain(i love the backing vocal harmonies on this track, our death over and over), Runes and men, To Drown a Rose(this is my favorite track on this lp, so drab and hypnotic), The Fog of the World, Punishment Initiation (I love tibet’s vocals, and the awesome lyrics and spanish like guitars, the synth sounds like a juno 60 too), Burn again (also another tibet vocal track, poetic with spanish like guitar, dark, evil lyrics, love it). This music is not overly complex, but it is so catchy and memorable. This is my favorite acoustic goth rock folk whatever you want to call it music.

What really sucks about this record, it is really hard to find, I bought it when they re-issued it a while back. This is a cd I listen to over and over again. Death in june has a lot of great music out, this needs to be on itunes, and it’s not. Check ebay, and amazon often for used copies. This is a must have. Amazing.. This is one of my favorite bands. If you cannot get this, check out But what ends when symbols shatter or nada, you can get those on itunes. In the mean time Click Here! to go listen to some stuff on their site to get an idea of their sound. Be sure and listen to a lot of it, don’t assume it all sounds the same. and one last thing THEY ARE NOT A FUCKING NAZI BAND! GET OVER IT! Click Here! to read more about death in june, and how he has worked with jews in this band.

PS PS PS PS: UPDATE: Yes you can get it now, its 55 bucks, and its a super version of it, but its worth it! Buy now! Click Here to Buy The Brown Book!

Music: Any Day Now by The Legendary Pink Dots, Disease Factory’s Take.

November 26th, 2007 by Hexfix93

lfb2 Any Day Now
  1. Casting The Runes
  2. A Strychnine Kiss
  3. Laguna Beach
  4. The Gallery
  5. Neon Mariners
  6. True Love
  7. The Peculiar Fun Flair
  8. Waiting for the Cloud
  9. Cloud Zero
  10. Under Glass
  11. The Light in my Little Girl’s Eyes
  12. The Plasma Twins

Anyday now. One of my all time favorite lps ever. One word. MAJESTIC. That is the best word to describe the sound of this record. Super musical, talented beyond my comprehension, the classical style, the violins, the synths, the vocal fx, the uber poetic lyrics, the production. No other musician can tell stories like edward ka-spel can, his haunting voice, his intelligent descriptive words, he can draw you into a world. Listen to casting the runes, and waiting for the clouds, these songs are mesmerizing to me. I cannot stress enough how amazing i think this is. Seeing how this is my favorite band of all time, i could not resist to do this review. I should of done it first. But i figured i wait till i got some more attention before i turned the spotlight on this amazing band. Below is a video that uses “casting the runes” as the sound, it is not related to the band in any other way, but you can hear the song at least. NOT WORK SAFE, it contains Nudity and blood. Warning.

I cannot put them into a category, to me, they are original, sure some people have said, pink floyd, but not really, some people say david bowie, but not really. I say the pink dots. They are a genre unto themselves(we “vac”, tried very hard to be like them in this regard). Their lps vary so much. This is the middle of their time line, from the middle on is their best work in my opinion. This was the beginning of a sound that would cary them into the early 90s. 1988 was a long time ago. But who cares this is a GEM, and one of the best lps ever made in my opinion. Below is another video with the music from waiting for the cloud. I think it’s from the movie Q. bloody. Not Work Safe.

Seriously, Any Day Now, The Golden Age, Crushed Velvet Apocalypse, and the Maria Dimension are the best lps of the pink dots. Nothing on this earth sounds that good in my opinion. This was my life for years and years. The beginnings of vac, we listened to nothing but the dots. No joke. Below is another stupid video using under glass from any day now.

My favorite tracks off this lp are: Casting the Runes, The Gallery, True Love, Waiting for the Cloud, Under Glass, The Light in my Little Girl’s Eyes. I don’t care what anyone else says, This era of music they did from 1985 to 1992 is simply amazing, even all the side projects, the tear garden, edward ka-spel, all of it is worth hunting down and buying if you are into this. No Dots, no VAC. They are that big of a deal to us. Seriously. If you like this, go buy it! Click here to buy.

Oh, and be nice and comment, tell me what you think of this. thank you.

Love, Disease Factory.

Music: In The Mix by Astral Projection, Disease Factory’s Take.

November 19th, 2007 by Hexfix93

in the mix In The Mix Disc 1
  1. Another World(floorplay mix)
  2. Ionized
  3. Let There Be Light
  4. Enlightened Evolution
  5. Power Gen
  6. Life on Mars(domestic remix)
  7. Flying Into a star(ast-roid remix)
  8. Liquid Sun(Cass & Slide Rework)
  9. Virtual Booster
  10. Free Tibet(free spirit remix)
  11. Electrostatic
  12. Axis v0.99

In my honest opinion, and i have listened to hundreds of trance bands, this is the best out of the bunch. Easily. Musical, trippy, psychedelic, out of this world, tranced out, kind of dark, heavy. Stuff is always swirling and oscillating and pulsing. It’s fast. This is what i listen to when i do cardio, or HIIT training. It is perfect, i trance out hard to the music and don’t even notice that my body is on the brink of collapse. This lp is perfect for that. But it’s not just work out music ahahahaha, some of my best acid trips and X moments were thanks to this and meatbeat manifesto . On the first CD, my favorite tracks are Another World, Ionized, Enlightened Evolution, Life on mars, Electrostatic, and my FAV from them is Axis v0.99.

in the mix In The Mix Disc 2
  1. People Can Fly
  2. Trance Dance
  3. Dancing Galaxy(on a mission remix)
  4. Aurora Borealis
  5. Liquid Sun
  6. Searching for UFOS(bright light remix)
  7. Kabalah
  8. Mahadeva
  9. Nilaya
  10. Burning up (instrumental)

I cannot put into words how much this band has inspired velvet acid christ over the last ten years. The biggest influence on our work in that time frame. I owe them so much it’s not even funny, and all i can do it tip my hat to them on my web site. On the second cd, my favorite tracks are People Can Fly, Liquid Sun, Kabalah, Mahadeva, Nilaya, and Burning Up.

Enjoy these cool videos i found. Very trippy. Their production is to notch. Mixing is amaizng, their use of sound fx, and filtering, phasers, flangers, delays. Hypnotic, but so alive, the music sounds like a living being. It is not canned digital, it is mostly analog, you can hear it breath and swim. It’s amazing.

The only two bands that i respect from this side of techno are Astral Projection and juno reactor. Most everything else is either to happy, not musical enough, or just bores the hell out of me. This stuff all ways sounds interesting to me no matter what mood i am in.

So, if you like what you see and hear here, please go buy this. Trance bands usually don’t sell that well, they have bad distribution, and in america the press ignores this stuff like the plague for some strange reason. This band is in my top 10 easily. And i’m not usually big on instrumental music. I all most always prefer vocals. go buy it! Click here to buy.

Music: Loved by The Cranes. Disease Factory’s take.

November 19th, 2007 by Hexfix93

lfb2 Loved
  1. Shining Road
  2. Pale Blue Sky
  3. Reverie
  4. Lilies
  5. Are You Gone?
  6. Loved
  7. Beautiful Friend
  8. Bewildered
  9. Come This Far
  10. Paris and Rome
  11. In The Night
  12. Shining Road (Brauer Mix)
  13. Paris and Rome (Flood Mix)
  14. Lilies (Flood Mix)

For a long time, this has been one of my favorite lps of all time. I listen to this when i am down, and lately that is a lot. Again, what makes me love this band? The very non typical vocals. Like an Erie little girl haunting you. The music has energy, a lot of energy. The guitars are very powerful, the bass drives, and the drums are always matching. From very pretty and beautiful, to angry and thriving and driving.

I would put this band in the post 4ad label as well. I hear a ton of influences in their sound, from fleetwood mac, to the cure. Some of the songs just sound like monsters. Lilies for example, this song is jacked and strange. My Favorite song on the record is Beautiful Friend. Those long guitar bends, kind of like Chris Isaak but not lame..

This is a band that never got enough credit. To me their music is timeless. And even after all these years, i still listen to it constantly. Ok now for my favorite songs off this lp, Shining road, Reverie, Beautiful Friend, Loved, Come This far. You will either love it, or hate it. A lot of people cannot get past the voice. Well, that is what i will be show casing mostly on this site. Vocalists who are unique and original and really expressive. If you like boring typical tones and voices, well, i wont be showing you much of that here. Sorry. Any way. If you like this, go buy it! Click here to buy.

Music: Show your bones by Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Disease Factory’s Take.

November 19th, 2007 by Hexfix93

lfb2 Show your bones
  1. Gold Lion
  2. Way Out
  3. Fancy
  4. Phenomena
  5. Honeybear
  6. Cheated Hearts
  7. Dudley
  8. Mysteries
  9. Sweets
  10. Warrior
  11. Turn Into

Wow. I bought this on a whim, I was bored and needed something new and fresh. I got this record off of amazon, i downloaded it for 8.99. What a deal, the sound quality is good (256 bitrate), the lp art is embedded into the mp3s. Awesome. My first time buying music online. I am not an Itunes fan at all, i don’t like itunes, cannot search files by folders and directories, so it puts me off big time, not to mention the drm. Enough of that. On amazon i download their downloader, and click to buy, and it throws it on my computer drm free, and i can use it on any player.. GREAT! wow a review of amazon.com music store along with this yeah yeah yeahs review.. ahahaahah. Enough of that.

Well the above Video is a good example of why i was attracted to this band. I love strange singers who act out the sound and freak out. I love strange voices that don’t sound like every other typical voice you hear when listening to people talk etc. She reminds me of Siouxsie meets Lene Lovich. How can i explain the sound, how about this, a more rocked out 4ad band. It has this huge rock sound to it, but still has that strange edge that kind of puts it with bands like joy division, the cure, Siouxsie. I know these days there are all these new labels the kids throw around, emo, hipster, whatever. i don’t know, and don’t care what crowd of people listens to it. The point is i like it. I recommend checking this out if any of what i am writing is making sense at all to you.. Song’s that i like the most are Gold Lion, Way Out, Fancy, Phenomena. Very rock oriented. But doesn’t sound like everything else out there. Most new music sucks ass, So it’s very rare that i would recommend a current band. But here it is. Check this out. and hell on amazon.com it won’t set you back to bad.. Click here to buy.
