  2. Destroy Everything you Touch
  3. International Dateline

  6. Soft Power
  7. Cmyk
  8. Fighting in Built Up Areas
  9. Last One Standing
  10. Weekend
  11. Beauty
  12. White Light Generation
  13. All The Way

Ouch, it’s so tough to pick a ladytron lp to review, because every single record they have put out is brilliant in some way. But this one certainly has the most polish on it, and kick ass hits that really makes it stand above the other lps. Sure there are some songs on the other records i still prefer, but i feel like this is their strongest LP to date. The video below is the best video i have seen in years. I love this song. The chorus reminds me of abba a bit. The melodies are genius.

This is by far my favorite band of the last 5 years. No other band has this much character, kick ass song writing, kick ass band image, talent, and 3 amazing records proving that they are no one hit wonders. Proving that they will be around for years to come and will be a cult band in any age of music. I think if they make 10 records and they all stay at this level, they could easily become my favorite band of all time. Only time will tell.

My favorite song on this lp is Fighting In Built Up Areas, This song just groves in this evil hypnotic way, the vocals sound sinister and haunting. If I was a DJ again, I would play this song into the ground. 2nd favorite song is Destroy Everything You Touch, I love the melodies and how the song builds up. I love how there are more guitars on this lp, it really added a lot of texture. Beauty is my 3rd favorite, it’s sad, and distant and amazing and so emotional. I don’t skip any of the tracks on this lp at all. I can listen to this from start to finish. But I don’t think high rise should be the opening track, just my opinion. It threw me off when i first bought it. It doesn’t set the tone for the rest of the lp so keep that in mind if you buy it. Buy now! Click Here to buy The Witching Hour on CD.

Music: First & Last & Always by Sisters of Mercy, Disease Factory’s Take.

January 7th, 2008 by Hexfix93

belief First and Last and Always
  1. Black Planet
  2. Walk Away
  3. No Time To Cry
  4. A Rock and a Hard Place
  5. Marian
  6. First and Last and Always
  7. Possession
  8. Nine While Nine
  9. Logic
  10. Some Kind Of Stranger

Really, this is one of the bands that really inspired me when I was still a kid. I absolutely still love this line up of the sisters of mercy. Wayne Hussy, Craig Adams, and Andrew Eldritch. After Wayne and Craig left, the sisters of mercy went down hill fast in my opinion. Even thought I still really love floodland as well.

The Sisters of Mercy - Black planet

So catchy, dark, haunting. Andrew had this great vocal range. He could go very deep and low, or high and powerful. Very good catchy lyrics. Then you have the driving bass of Adams that is a huge influence on me as a bass player and song writer. As well, Wayne and his arpeggios and really catchy riffs.

Andrew Eldritch to this day denies that the Sisters Of Mercy were ever a “GOTH” band. I think he is right. This stuff is way to catchy and pop oriented rock to be “GOTH”. I put them in the same category as The Cure, who also is not a “GOTH” Band. Both of these bands have made some really dark music, but I do not think of them as goths. They sure have a lot of “GOTH” fans though. and I think andrew is an asshole for pissing all over his fans like he does. But in the end, I could care less. I still love this era of music he helped to create.

My favorite song on this LP is probably Marian. And then Black Planet. In all seriousness? This LP has let me count. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 yeah, 5 solid HITS. and the rest of the tracks are AA. This is one of those classic LPS like the Sex Pistols Nevermind the Bullocks. I know for a fact that the sisters of mercy inspired man forms of music, from all the goths, to metal heads like Metallica. Buy now! Click Here to Buy First and Last and Always on CD.

Music: Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing by Strapping Young Lad, Disease Factory’s Take.

December 31st, 2007 by Hexfix93

belief Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing
  1. S.Y.L.
  2. In The Rainy Season
  3. Goat
  4. Happy Camper (Carpe B U M)
  5. Critic
  6. The Filler Sweet Jesus City
  7. Skin Me
  8. Drizzlehell
  9. Satans Ice Cream Truck

When it comes to Metal, I am very picky. I love grindcore, and other forms of Death Metal. This band to me, really defines what Industrial Metal IS. This stuff is fast, evil, angry, and funny. Musical as well. This is one of the many faces of Devin Townsend. He has been in many bands and even worked with Steve Vai, I cannot stant Steve Vais music, but I don’t hold it against him. Devin Also did guitar work for front line assembly from 1994 to 1995. heheeh.

Live, I think he puts on one hell of a show, the music is super tight, he is funny, always making jokes and making fun of stuff. Seriously one of the best live acts I have ever seen. The energy is intense. Not for the faint of heart. I recommend seeing them live, even if you hate metal. These guys are great live..

Play this loud! This is meant to be blasted. It sounds so much better loud. I think my favorite song on this LP is S.Y.L. The chorus of “I fucking hate you” over and over just sings to my heart. My other favorite tracks are Happy Camper, In the Rainy Season, Critic, and the Hilarious Satan’s Ice Cream Truck.

Yeah, He’s bald now. But i don’t care, he kicks ass. Not to mention, I think he is either a vegan or a vegetarian. can’t remember which. This is one of my favorite Metal records of all time.

Music: Violator by Depeche Mode, Disease Factory’s Take.

December 25th, 2007 by Hexfix93

faith Violator
  1. World in My Eyes
  2. Sweetest Perfection
  3. Personal Jesus
  4. Halo
  5. Waiting for the Night
  6. Enjoy the Silence
  7. Policy of Truth
  8. Blue Dress
  9. Clean

I think this is the best record ever made. From start to finish, every song is AAA. I still listen to this lp quite often. I grew up with this record one could say. I came of age to this record. Many things in my life happened when this music was playing, either at clubs, on the radio, in my x gf’s car driving long distances, or on MTV.

Depeche Mode - World in my eyes
Uploaded by thisurf

For me, Depeche Mode is the band I turn to when I get tired of listening to all forms of music. It has the power to renew my interest even if I am totally burned out on music. Electronic POP music. One of the Few POP bands I can actually stand. Picking a favorite song on Violator is extremely hard. I love how the songs ebb and flow, build tension and release it.

Depeche Mode - Halo
Uploaded by cladstrife

I will have to say, Enjoy The Silence, Is probably my favorite song on Violator. This has the best production ever. Every sound in that mix is golden. No bad sounds, Everything is punchy and vibrant. The music is amazing as well, Who would of thought a 909 snare could hook a song like that. I think my favorite part of that song is the filter sweeps that come in during “all i ever wanted”. It’s Neat.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence
Uploaded by hakim93200

In my opinion, this is the is the best sounding electronic lp ever made, and I am strictly speaking from a production stand point. Listen to the sounds. How it’s mixed. The Performances. I mean this is the best sounding pop record ever made. This in combination with some of the best song writing ever, honestly put this LP over the Top. Depeche Mode is no where close to being my favorite band. But this is probably my favorite LP in most all the categories I can think of. Engineering, Mixing, Recording, Songs, Performance. I mean, This is Golden in ever way.

Depeche Mode - Policy Of Truth
Uploaded by cladstrife

My second favorite song is Halo. If you have never heard any of this, you really must be living under a rock. For a long time, No one was able to escape hearing something from this LP either on MTV, the radio, TV, everywhere, clubs. I still love this record. Has there been a POP record made with this quality since? NO WAY. Nothing has even come close to this in the entire music world. It truly is a GEM.

Music: Faith by The Cure, Disease Factory’s Take.

December 17th, 2007 by Hexfix93

faith Faith
  1. The Holy Hour
  2. Primary
  3. Other Voices
  4. All Cats are Grey
  5. The Funeral Party
  6. Doubt
  7. The Drowning Man
  8. Faith

My favorite cure record. My favorite goth lp. There is just something about the tone of robert smith’s voice that draws me in. When I first saw the cure when I was a kid, I saw the video for hot hot hot, and dismissed this band when I was real young as silly fluff, I was so wrong. As I got older, I stole this LP on cassette from a record store on a whim when I was 16 and poor. This and the Sky’s gone out from Bauhaus. I saw this cool kid in school wearing a cure patch and a bauhaus patch on his jacket. I think that inspired me. The first time I listened to Faith, It blew me away. I was in tears, I did not expect this heavy sad thing at all. In the end, Faith got listened to the most, in fact I think I listen to this lp more than any in my entire collection. The video below is for Primary.

Back then, this LP fit on one side of a cassette tape. On the other side was this super long droning song called Carnage Visors, Which to this day is still my favorite song to drive to, especially in the mountains at night or in bad weather. I was pissed when I bought the CD to find no Carnage Visors. Phooey! I think buying the old tape was a better buy. Oh well, the cd is still amazing. The Video below is for Other Voices.

I have seriously annoyed people with how much I listen to this CD over the years. I think Faith and the b-sides of Staring at the sea are the cure songs that I listened to the most still. This lp has my favorite bass sounds. My favorite drum sounds. My favorite synth sounds. And my favorite vocal style. Another downer about this lp, The US version didn’t have charlotte sometimes on it. They dropped that for the US market. That sucks because that is another one of my favorite cure songs as well. Europeans don’t know how lucky they were. The live video below is for All Cats Are Grey.

Over the years of doing music, I have tried so hard to get mean bass, and punchy drums like the ones you hear on this record to no avail. A depressing pursuit I still have yet to master. I think the production on this lp is my absolute favorite. I love the droning verbed out wails, the urgency in his vocals. My favorite songs? ALL OF THEM. EVERY SONG IS AAA. If I had to pick a favorite, The drowning man. To this day this is one of the few songs can still jerk tears from me. One of the few songs that actually can make me cry. The Song doubt is truly a violent sounding song as well that really manipulates my emotions. I love the psychedelic sound of the bass flanging in Primary. The holy hour has one of the coolest bass lines ever. The end song faith can also make my eyes weep as well. This is a heavy lp with a lot of heavy emotions. The live video below is for The Drowning Man.

If it was not for the legacy of Edward Ka-spel, the cure would still be my favorite band. They are my 2nd favorite band now, used to be my first. Oh well, who cares it’s really hard to decide my favorites, some times this still is my favorite band. I guess it depends on my mood. This CD is short and sweet, but worth every penny. This is the ultimate shoe gaze lp. I hope you like the videos. If you like this. Buy it now! They released deluxe editions of all their old lps, and I own most of them now, they are amazing, demo tracks and extra pictures. double cds. Awesome. Pick it up! Click Here to buy Faith Deluxe Edition.

And a bonus video of Charlotte Sometimes, it’s not on faith. But from the same Era. Enjoy.

Music: Treasure by Cocteau Twins, Disease Factory’s Take

December 10th, 2007 by Hexfix93

treasure Treasure
  1. Ivo
  2. Lorelei
  3. Beatrix
  4. Persephone
  5. Pandora
  6. Amelia
  7. Aloysius
  8. Cicely
  9. Otterley
  10. Domino

If you like The Cure, Siouxsie, or anything in that vein, well this is kind of in that vein. 4ad, the label that brought us a lot of shoe gaze music, also gave us The Cocteau Twins. This music is strange and pretty with Kind of goofy(in a good way) vocals that sound alien. Elizabeth Fraser uses a mish mash of languages together to make the lyrics. Her voice is so unique and classical in this strange way. No one can really understand it. To me it is genius. The video below is for “Lorelei”, and is a fan video.

These are not the best Cocteau Twins songs, no, but to me this lp flows the best from start to finish, for that, I call it their best lp. There is this verb on everything, I don’t know how they managed it, maybe it’s just the room they recorded in but it puts this mood to the entire record. This dark mysterious kind of ambience. The songs ebb and flow like the ocean. Their musical talent is amazing. The vocals can be so light then so intense the next minute. The songs build and flow as if they were actual living beings. The Video below is for “Beatrix”, also fan made.

I love the tight drum machine sound. Punchy and mechanical rhythms. I think my favorite song on this lp is the opening track “IVO”. I love how this song rises and falls with the vocal melodies. Very magickal, The bell sounds go perfect with the melodies. The video below is for “Amelia”, its a fan video. not work safe, nudity, gore.

My Favorite tracks are: Ivo, Lorelei, Beatrix, Persephone, Amelia, Aloysius, and Domino. My second favorite track is persephone. This song is very heavy and has a more rock sound to it. I love how the vocals really fluctuate and waver. Watch the videos, and if you like this, please listen to more of their stuff, because a lot of it is really great.. The video below is for “Aloysius”.

Easily my favorite 4ad band. So relaxing, so beautiful, so elegant, and so very unique. There are not any bands making music at this level anymore. That is why I reach into the past for my reviews to show you what really influences me as an artist. This is the lp i listened to the most on my first european tour, it relaxed me before the show and got my nerves under control. Oh the power of music. Buy now! Click Here to buy Treasure! On that page you can also buy the mp3s at 256 for 8.99. good deal.

I’m getting angry, no one comments on these great bands i review. Please, if you like this, please talk about it… i would appreciate it.
