VAC NEWS: July 2nd 2k10. New Gear, Apple Sucks, New VAC.

The above is a cool graphic a FAN on Facebook made me. I dig it. Where to start? Let me think, oh yeah. New VAC, I am shooting to get it all done by the fall. I have to really work my ass off to meet that. It’s so much harder in my old age to come up with new riffs and new songs. I promise, this lp is not going to be acoustic. It wont be that techno either. I think its going to be dance industrial. I want more rage in the sound, intolerance, and disgust. I am way more angry these days and I hope to make an angry record. I am listening to Bathory, old wumpscut, old legendary pink dots, old madonna, and old b52s. LOL strange influences this time.

Gear and how it is shaping how we sound. So yes, I have sold a lot of stuff and bought a lot of stuff. I moved away from the modern daw, and I am working the way I used to work, with a good stable live seq, sequencing all my synths live through a mixer. I mix on the mixer, then bounce down to two track master, this is it. I am now using a pc with wavelab to record my master tracks to, with a lynxtwo l22 audio card. I sequence with cubase 2.8 on a old p3 PC with windows 98, tight, and works great with my amt8 via serial. Bought 2x Bass stations for bass and lead duties, Using an Virus A for various things, jp8080 for strings and various things, korg trinity plus with prophecy, and trinitry rack, for atmospheres and drums, Boss DR660 like i used on old old vac up to cotd, also bought back an mks-50 and programming the fuck out of it, love this thing so much, used it on old old vac up to cotd as well. emu e6400 ultra for samples, drums, and vocals, roland r8m rack for drums, boss me 50 for vocal fx, and kurzweil ksp8 for vocal fx, drum fx, synth fx, onyx 1620 mixer, love it. I am able to get my drums aggressive with the r8m and dr 660 and sampler going through the ksp8, I can make it sound brutal again, I could not get that with the software I was using, battery and kontakt and halion. There is something magical about this hardware that just makes me able to write good drums from scratch that I cant get on anything else. I will review my new gear soon. I am really loving my new setup and new synths.

Why did I leave apple? I sold my ipad, I sold my macbook pro, I am in the process of selling all my apple software. Yes, Steve Jobs pissed me off that bad. The censorship king on the apps store, tells us what apps we can run, kicks in doors of companies and the press who get insider or leaked info like Watergate politics by nixon back in the day. Steve jobs to me is the new hitler of the tech world. I hate itunes, because their business model is destroying music, they put all the mom and pa stores out of business, well there the employees knew the music, they would hang posters and feature all kinds of things to help promote bands. Now there is itunes, and they don’t advertise shit, there is no way to promoted yourself there, or anywhere on the internet anymore so you no longer get random buyers. I could go on and on about this, but they need to make and advertising system for the artists and the different genres of music. But they wont. Any how, the iphone is a joke, the new one has a lot of tech problems. I don’t need a control phreak telling me what I can and cannot do with my ipad, or my mac. On osx I thought it would fix my midi, it did kind of, but it was still fucked up. No longer use midi on new computers because none of them can do it right. So that is no long a need. I wanted to play games, and to get a decent gaming rig on a mac, its 3000 bucks after tax. No thanks. I built a pc for about a grand, and windows 7 is so much better than the older windows, sure i like osx still, but it had its issues as well. Like not letting you back out of directories in load menus, not remembering window locations, the file browser sucks. Windows 7, man i love it. More than OSX. Never thought I would say that. But its true, vista made me go mac, windows 7 made me go pc again. Any way enough about apple. I’m done with apple. May that fascist company go down in flames, at least microsoft is not censoring companies and what they can publish and use on their os. Sure, I hate microsoft for all the underhanded bs they pulled back in the day, and their monopoly politics, and man that xbox 360, I still think they should get out of the console market and let the people who know how to build reliable good hardware like sony, nintendo and sega rule the market again. Hell, Napalm, Disease Out.

2005 – 2010.

To young to die. I wish i could of moved long ago, these neighbors are bastards. He was given decon or something maybe, he acted and bled out like it. But, maybe he had a genetic disorder too the doctors told me. I cannot believe he could go from fine to horrid in 3 days. The transfusion and vit k shots didn’t work, he started bleeding out last night. Nothing could be done, he was pissing blood and shitting blood. I don’t feel like doing anything. I miss him so much. I planned on running with him this summer like we used to when I was raw. He was my walk running buddie. I really miss him. He was so cute. He made me happy.

My heart is crushed. I’m devastated.

My poor dog, is so ill, i just had to spend money on a blood transfusion. 1500 for un insured dog care :( i don’t know what it is, his blood is only 6%, hardly any Tcells, like he was poisoned.

But at this level, the doctors are saying it might be bone cancer. he is only 5, i cried my heart out today, one of the worst days of my life. i am so sad its breaking my heart. I don’t know how i can afford to feed him a barf diet. a raw dog diet. its so expensive, i am hoping we can heal him, but i doubt it, i’m so scared of losing him, this is the worst i have felt in my life i think. I’ve lost most of my friends over the last 4 years, and now this, i am so morbid right now. He got sick out of no where. falling down, pissing himself, crying.. i am so pissed. I hate to sound so emo, but honestly. My heart is breaking. We get him back tomorrow, but who knows how long the blood transfusion will hold for. I am going to try raw food on him, get him to drink veggie juice if possible. I don’t have the money. it sucks. if you want to donate and help out, please do it on my web page on the donate button.

Please help zyden. He is such a good dog. He wants to live, when I took him to the vet, even though he is so sick, he acted just like we were going on a walk, i walk him all the time. One of the best moments in my life is at 2am on a summer night walking him in the park by my house while i was listening to the b52s on my raw vegan high, it is one of my most warmest memories of all time for me. When the doctors explained to me how sick he was, my jaw dropped, i thought i took good care of him feeding him healthier food. Maybe its his genetics. I didn’t feed him raw though. :( They said that other dogs in his shape come in could not even move. He is standing, walking, and acting like he wants to live. I’m so sad.

Below is the second video off the LP “The Art of Breaking Apart”. I really like how I blended the acoustic guitar into this brutal psy trance track. This is one of my favorite songs on the LP and it really features my modular and my future retro revolution. To me this is one of the best sounding things I have ever made from a production stand point. Hope you enjoy.

News: Doing a lot of pre production for the new LP I am working on, organizing and arranging my synth sounds and patch presets. Setting up my drum kits, wiring up the mixer, getting everything labeled. I am nervous to start working again, I have some songs already written, just not recorded or produced. I have 2 guitar tracks. I want to remake some songs from Oblivion Interface. Namely Fried and Cease to Understand. I will never again make long lps, I will do lps that are 8 to 9 tracks long MAX from here on out, and try to make the songs way better, quality not quantity. I plan to do 2 singles for each lp I do. So maybe I will include one single on the LP as a ltd edition in the future. So I am already underway. I think the art of breaking apart has done well. I hope it sells better. I am also looking for a live band now. VAC is now 100% a solo project. I am looking for people who can play guitar and keyboards and drum pads live though, I am on the look out, must be in Colorado. I will not play with people who do not know how to play, so I must find WEIRD talented people for the job. I also plan to do some more synth reviews for this site. I will post some in the near future.

I love my new set up, Mopho, Trinity, Virus A, Nord Lead 2, Jp-8080, AN1x(master controller, love it), Emu e6400 ultra, Logic 8, ksp8 fx, Distressors x2, Pcm96, Amt8, Apogee Duet, + Komplete Software(will barely use it, i’m a hardware freak). I’m no longer an analog snob. I want to use thinner sounds, and layer more, make more complex mixes. I find this easier to do with the old virtual analogs, the first generation ones I find sound the best. No more track by track recording. I will run it all live like I did in the old days. This gear set up is pretty close to what I had during the calling of the dead and fun with knives era of my career. I hope the fast work flow and sounds will allow for a more up beat and aggressive sound like I had back then. Time will tell. I have way better drum production this time. I hope it pays off. I will keep you up to date.

Positive: Rebuilding the studio is cool, I have discovered how to make my drums more smashing and big. Running live, I am getting way better results. I use my distressors on my alt out mix on my onyx mixer. Run them back in to one of the returns. It’s cool, I have my sampler(emu e6400 ultra) running into my ksp8(battery and kontakt is epic fail, i tried the same thing, but the hardware sampler breaths the magick into the samples that makes them work right, no wonder the chemical brother swears by these old emu samplers), I throw the drum room on the drums, and then run them through the distressor, HUGE!, Smash the hell out of them with the dist 3 setting on. FUCK. So pissed I didn’t have this shit when i made the last few records. I think my drums are going to be a lot better on the new lp. No promises, because any time I plan, things never come out the way I imagine them. Also, running my nord rack 2 into my ksp8 is a big fucking holy shit WOW from hell moment too. I thought the jupiter 8 was nifty. The nord lead, not as fat, thank goodness because I am sick to death of fat analogs that hog the mix, is really lush, and aggressive, and amazing sounding. What I missed about all these old VAs, they have more character than the new ones, but more than anything it is all the sounds respond to midi velocity, and after touch, so much more expressive than my mono synths when playing them, and this is why the old cotd and fwk sounded so cool, so much more expression in the sounds. I realize this now, on the old leads on those records, they are way more animated, and the mix was more busy thanks to the synths not being as fat, I could write more parts easier. Analog sounds better, digital performs and layers better. Digalog like tom shear says. No more analog snob here. I am still a hardware nazi though. :)

Tour: No more talking about live shows and tours unless I have something booked and ready to go, it seems that some fans are getting really angry about me mentioning tours and then never doing them. They are a bitch to set up, and it’s hard to get a band together. Plus i need hair and make up people to help us old farts not look so lame on stage. A ton of work needs to be done to get me out on the road. No more talk.

NEWS: This is a new press photo promo picture, yay, me likes. So what is new? I am working on the next lp now. Going back to the old set up and the old mode of working. I wrote a really good insight on how VAC production works past and present Click Here to read VAC PRODUCTION PAST VS PRESENT. I am sick of the slow way of working. Going back to the fast way, buying back all the gear I used on calling of the dead, and fun with knives(emu e6400 ultra, jp-8080, virus a, trinity rack, nord lead 2 rack, yamaha an1x, mopho. I am selling a few synths, my, s770 sampler, roland sh-2, future retro revolution and my novation remote 61 mk1 keyboard controller. I am also selling my converters my Fireface 800(if you are interested in any of these, comment) I am re-making some old songs off of oblivion interface(the very first unreleased VAC LP), I have about 4 songs underway that are new. I know that I want to make a more harsh dance record, with varied elements. I am more angry than sad now. I hope I can get another LP finished over the winter. After the next lp, I think a greatest hits is in order. I really want to make a great lp that is more complex. My old gear will work I bet. Wish me luck.

VAC News: Talked to Dave over at metropolis a couple of days ago, told me the covenant shows on the west coast did well. He thinks a mini west coast tour in the spring is in order for VAC. He thinks it would do well. I am working on maybe trying to make this a reality. Wish us luck. I am already writing new material for the next lp, buying some new stuff, going to check out some new gear and review it and use it on the new LP. I will post that stuff here on the VAC site when I get to it.

The new LP is getting a great response from some. Way more positive than negative so far. I think a lot of new people will really be into this VAC record. I think this record will bring new fans. Some people are having a hard time with the acoustic guitars, mostly because they do not listen to the dots or death in june like I do so they have no idea that those are some of my biggest influences. All is good though. I hope people will pay for it, if they don’t I hope they donate money instead. I will put up a donate money button for all you pirates who feel guilty and don’t want to give to the stores or the labels :) LOL please, I need it, times are really tough.
