VAC TOUR 2012-2013 plans in the works.

August 23rd, 2012 by Hexfix93

I am going over tour stuff. I do not want to go out for 1 and a half months straight. I have no idea what venues pay a band like me these days. I am investigating. I hope i can draw from 150 to 200 people per show at about 20 bucks a head. This would be ok with me if it all pans out. I do not know what the reality is. I know that I want to play the big cities, and some shows along the way. I never want to get on a plane again. I will have to drive every where. Trying to figure out the set list. Trying to figure out the venues, weather I should get a booking agent who will take 20% of the money :( or book it all myself. Trying to figure out if I want to use todd’s VAN or something bigger I can stand up in while driving to stretch and play ps3 on the tv while someone is driving.. Got to get it all worked out.

VAC wants to play in Austin TX, NY, LA, PORTLAND, SEATTLE, SAN FRAN, CANADA, ATLANTA, ARIZONA, VEGAS. Not sure about chicago, detroit, philly, kansas, nashville, and the rest. I’m not sure about any of it or how to break the legs up and how to manage it all.

Please leave comments helping me. What venues to play, what turnout will be like, who the good promoters are. Please leave this information in the comments.

I run a monthly show in Seattle called Mechanismus. It would be pretty cool to get you on the bill sometime. The next available opening I have is Friday January 25th. Shoot me an email and we can discuss. Thanks!

  2. convey Says:

    come to florida please.

  3. Sin Says:

Those “cities” listed are good. Id also add L.A. (das bunker or bar sinister) to that list.

Not sure how big a turn out will be in Seattle, but Ali is pretty good. He did a show for me one time and the turn out was decent.

  4. BootlegDeath Says:

Come to Lincoln, NE! “Lords of Acid” came here less than two years ago and packed the house at like $25 a ticket. They played at The Bourbon. “Egyptian Lover” just came and played there last week to a crowd of about 125-150. That was $20. I’d like to think you would do ATLEAST that well here! And it’s only a few hours from you!;)

  5. MrBuckets Says:

Is there any chance in hell you would come to Minneapolis or St Paul, MN?????

Otherwise please please please hit up Detroilet or Chi Town

  6. Xpletiv Says:

A stop-over in chicago would be a great thing. Too many times we are passed over-if it’s too much $$$ in Chicago=how about a suburb?
We would love to see/hear you here!!

Definitely visit to Mexico, we want that dose acid!!!

  10. hidden void Says:

I assume Denver is on that list!? Yes!? Please yes!?

  11. Kmasz Says:

Come to Europe please!! Some German fest will be cool, but prefomance in club -that is what i dream of!

  12. DJ Gn0m3 Says:

A Das Bunker show would be amazing in LA.

  13. Project Eins Says:

For Pittsburgh: Mr Smalls (technically not in the city, but it is). It is a converted church. I saw Thrill Kill Kult there. Cool place.

For DC: The Black Cat. Pretty sure this is a converted warehouse (I don’t know, but it looks like it could be). They have 2 stages – you could fill up the larger one, easily.

There are also a couple of regular goth nights at bars that would probably love to have you play a set or have you hang out there after one of your sets. The bars are lame, but could be a good way to increase your revenue (“Come meet VAC at the afterparty!” or something).

Also, if you time it, we have Bound — an alternative lifestyle party in a warehouse; look it up, you might be interested.

One of my friends is a booking agent here in DC. He formally did booking in Austin TX, so he probably has some connections or suggestions for venues. If you like, I can find out more or hook you two up. I am working with him on an annual festival in DC. Its in Oct, so it might be too late / difficult to join this year, but maybe if you tour this way Oct 2013 (assuming you’re interested).

  14. impl0dr Says:

i think i posted this somewhere, but DNA Lounge in San Francisco is the place to play. Seen so many bands there. It’s a cool venue. Can’t wait to see you guys!

  15. Rose Burke Says:

Please consider Detroit! Nobody comes here, they either do Chicago or Toronto and we who have no money can’t attend those shows. We have some nice venues. The Necto in Ann Arbor, The Crofoot in Pontiac, Small’s in Hamtramck, etc. You have fans here!

  16. Kevin Says:

I would love to see you in atlanta (closest city to me you would play at) and a good venue for you would probably be a place called the masquerade, its downtown and i saw the dots there on their last tour.

  17. RI Says:

I say all the listed City’s are great starts and will draw in the crowd you need. I’m in Texas and I know Austin will deff give you that and more. San Antonio will also do the same.

I second everyone else do bar sinister in ca and das bunker. Having VAC finally tour is like a blessing to a shit ton of people that could only dream about it. If you follow through you will see results.

  18. john digiwaste Says:

for nyc.i say try the either rebel nyc and talk to xris smack or try talking to jet to do a show at cybertron. they’re really cool guys to talk to about that.

PLEASE come to Detroit!!!! Check out Small’s in Hamtramck, Crofoot in Pontiac, or even Necto in Ann Arbor. But PLEASE come here!!!! You have so many people here who want to see you!

  23. Somnambulist Says:

For NYC I second Cybertron. There has been a good turnout for FLA, Ministry, Bile in NYC area. I also recommend making contacts in Philly, the scene was pretty big in 2011. I moved to NYC since then, so I am not sure what it is like now but try club shampoo in Philly, they hosted Lords of Acid with My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult with great turnout. See if you can get IsoTank to promote you. http://www2.mailordercentral.com/isotank/Aboutus.asp They are primarily a mailorder website, but will promote shows. They did a great job for Laeather Strip when they came around.

  24. zoon Says:

  25. Gerd Says:

    Come to Chicago, please!!

  26. Dobermann Says:

Maybe You want play on our festival? :)

  27. Eric Hall Says:

I became a VAC fan after you stopped touring. Never got a chance to see you live. I am right here in Aurora, CO so you can’t neglect your home states fans. I will be there with at least three friends, and my daughter, who has never been to a concert. Heh heh. VAC as her first concert, culture shock!

  28. MrBuckets Says:

Ill make another push for Minneapolis. There is a club here called Ground Zero. They are a goth/industrial club. They’ve had Haujobb back in 2003, Combichrist, and now Icon of Coil is coming in September. They would jump at the chance for you I think. They even have a bondage night every Saturday.

Also there is the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. Its an very old movie theater turned into a venue. Very cool place. They will have anyone play there, from Pendulum to the Legendary Pink Dots.

  31. Kungfuthug Says:

    Hey fucker.

I know bands like a23, aesthetic perfection, imperative reaction and such other acts play at a venue called Dickens Pub in Calgary Alberta Canada.
The shows usually have at least 150+.

Come to Calgary, call dickens and book it yourself, email me in advance and i will bring 10 plus assholes to party there!

  32. Signuptocomment Says:

I know TN has a club called Rockettown you might want to contact. TBM packed it out, with a good 150 plus.

  33. calmdownian Says:

For SF, definitely try for the DNA lounge. They take smaller artists all the time and doesn’t seem like it’d be too hard to book.

  34. Mandy Says:

Das Bunker in LA would be a great place and it’s always packed.

  35. Mat Says:

If you come to Philly I promise to be there!

  43. Michael Tate Says:

Making the 3rd push for Minneapolis. Like was said before, Ground Zero would be the place to go, and Kilted Farmer Konserts would be a good promoter to contact. They’ve brought in guys like Aesthetic Perfection/X-Rx and Icon of Coil in recently.

  44. Pete Says:

Gothic Theatre in Colorado would be a strategic fit for vac.

I run Assimilation in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We would love for Velvet Acid Christ to come play here and you’re close to home. Please contact me at remissionentertainment@gmail.com for booking.

  46. Synical Deliverance Says:

My electronic-industrial band Synical Deliverance would really like to open up for VAC at the Atlanta show.

We have 3 self-released albums, have performed over 200 live shows since 2006, and put on a great performance for the goth and electro heads.

Das Bunker is a great venue in Atlanta, and we would like to help you in any way possible. Please feel free to send an email, and we can talk more from there!

    Thank you Todd.

may be worth getting hold of DJ dead (who plays your stuff all the time on tormented radio) as he does dj mix gigs in TX and can probably help down there.
If you ever fancy diving over to europe UK has places like slimelight (http://www.slimelight.net/) in london and corporation (http://www.corporation.org.uk/) in sheffield. Germany go for the amphi festival (http://www.amphi-festival.de/)

  49. Josh Says:

Chicago-The Kinetic Playground. I don’t know about many venues in Chicago but I saw God Module there a few years back. I would definitely drive to Chicago from Milwaukee to see VAC.

    Madison
-Inferno in Madison is the most popular venue in WI for electronic music and the goth scene. Bands such as The Gothsicles, Unter Null, A23 play here. Matt from Caustic promotes shows here.
    Milwaukee
-Club Anything is about the closest thing to a Goth Club in Milwaukee but it’s small. Unter Null, SITD, Thrill Kill Kult have played here
-The Miramar Theater. Recently saw IOC for $24 with about 150 people. Lots of electronic bands play here: IOC, Combichrist, TBM, SITD, Project Pitchfork, Imperative Reaction, DJ? Acucrack and many others.
A guy named Gary promotes just about all goth/industrial/EBM bands in Milwaukee.

If you have any interest in playing WI I can send you the email addresses of Gary and Matt.

Please come to Chicago!!! A lot of local bands perform at Reggie’s Rock Club. I am not sure how much they charge, but bands are usually $10 to $15 at the door. You can probably get a decent deal there! Best of luck!!

Demand seems to be high in Chicago, and if you decide to play a show here, I would recommend looking at Reggies as a first choice as K said above me.

  55. Vampyrian Trance Says:

It’s always tough to travel again to NY with out a car and I hated it there but I did it for BlutEngel so I know I will have to for you since you are my favorite musician. I just hope I can scrap up the cash somehow or hitch hike (lol). I really hope you can make it closer to Ohio; Columbus used to have a huge Goth scene but for some season Bowling Greens has 2 goth Nights and one is Huge (though its more an alternative night they call a goth night). I will find a way to get there regardless as you biggest fan…

PITTSBURGH or somewhere close. Funker Vogt played here at a gay club a year ago. I have no idea what the crowd size was because I dont go to gay clubs and second because I saw the ad for the show about a week late. I’d see a VAC concert anywhere tho, whichever venue you pick. Just saw Dead Can Dance in Virginia, about 4.5 hours from my house so thats about how far i’d travel from Pittsburgh for a show. FYI – I’d pay more than 20 bucks to get in.

  59. Chris Conner Says:

Get the book tour smart and break the band. He has a road map of how to book a full us tour cost effectively. Written by Martin Atkins.

    Ideally something liek this:

Indy, Chicago, Detroit/Ann Arbor, Dayton, Cincy, Louisville?, Phily, Coloumbus, head east to the coast, down the coast, into the tippy top of Florida, New Orleans, Texas, etc.

You might also contact Athan @ Cruxshadows.com as he books a good deal of goth industrial talent these days.

  60. B4DK Says:

For san francisco the DNALounge has to be your destination . so many goth/industrial/ groups have played here check there website dnalounge.com at the website you will find all you need to get up in here

For Atlanta – Promoter DJ Aesthetic and the venue Bunker is Excellent

San Francisco – DNA Lounge / Death Guild

LA – well the big popular place is Das Bunker so that would be your best bet

  62. Jim Semonik Says:

Hey Bryan. Jim Semonik here. I have handled shows here in Pittsburgh for the last 13 years and do every major dark scene tour that happens usually. Mr.Smalls is too big for a VAC show. The Rex Theater or the Hideout/Ironworks are appropriate. @Blight…maybe you could open this? Also, I released the Electronic saviors comps on Metro and play in the band Rein[Forced]. Also 15 years of DJ experience. Get in touch if you are interested. I almost booked you on that last tour with Haujobb and Din Fiv.

    Hi Bryan,
I’ve been booking, DJing and promoting industrial shows and club nights New Orleans for the last five years. Shows Attrition Productions has been involved in include VNV Nation, Covenant, Nitzer Ebb and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. We’ve got some great venues at our disposal at this time, and are confident in meeting your turnout expectations. I’d really love the opportunity to book you down here. Please let me know if you’re interested!

  64. Chaank Says:

Can’t your label put you in touch with a tour manager or someone who can help with the logistics of this? I mean, bravo for wanting to take it on yourself, but usually most bands will work with someone who has the contacts and experience putting these sorts of things together. The way I’ve always seen it work is that the tour manager helps draw up a standard rider with what you want from the venues/promoters (food, tech, money, merch space, accomodations), then they shop it out to their contacts in the big cities and try and fill in smaller cities along the way. Once the venues/promoters decide to put your show on, it’s up to them to set the ticket price and advertise the show. Some venues and promoters will haggle the price, some won’t, some will want you to work for door without a guarantee, some will guarantee you a certain amount and some of the door, it’s all part of the negotiations to book the tour.

  66. Monique Says:

Although most people know das bunker should be the venue for Los Angeles, I think it’s too small for VAC. The music box on hollywood blvd, would be perfect. There are enough people in Los angeles who would love love love seeing VAC so think a little bigger then das bunker, you deserve it! Bunker is too small and too fucking uncomfortably hot in the main room where VAC would most likely perform.

  67. Todd M Says:

Bryan, New Orleans is always a great place to play with knives..

  70. Kerry Says:

There is an awesome club in Los Angeles called The Catch One. On Friday nights they present Das Bunker. Recent shows there have been Covenant, VNV Nation, Suicide Commando, etc. Your sound would fit right in there. There is a stage with plenty of room for dancing. It’s a goth, industrial, punk kind of crowd. Very nice. Would love to see you there.

my suggestions are for East Coast locations

Rams Head Live in Baltimore, Maryland is a great venue. Many different shows and everyone flocks there when someone go. Bands like Modest Mouse, Dir en Grey, Gwar, Cradle of Filth, Wu Tang Clan, Three 6 Mafia, Deftones and many others plus there’s always local bands going to play. The State Theater in Falls Church, Virginia is a good place too. You could Easily stop by before or after DC next year when you hit the east coast(I hope you do Please!! :D)
Jaxx Nightclub in Springfield, Virginia I’m sure you might know that one it’s a little crap joint with TONS of metal shows so I feel that musically you’re pretty damn acceptable there ’cause I can see how that would be an issue :p

If I could suggest some promoting maybe put together something that we could download and print. That we could take to any local parcel store and have printed so that would save money for you and I’m sure no body would mind doing that, I sure wouldn’t wanna see you hit all these cities.

Oh and The Black Cat in DC is another to look at. Recently went to see Boris and the place is nice. Uhhhhmmmm OH! Spellbound club in DC obviously. Club Midnight is another in DC.

Best of luck dude. Love the new album! Ominous Rattle is my favorite. Think about the promoting thing i mention could make the difference you need.
