I've been listening to the new album exclusively since I bought it. I'm so in love with Faithless. It reminds me a lot of why I liked Lust for Blood so much.
I think all the guitar would have been a little overwhelming had it not been done well. Thanks for giving us something new and different. Then again, thanks for not taking a total 180 - my other favorite is Caustic Disco. Reminded me a little of Toxic Coma =)

alright, I really wanted to wait until I had time to do a proper reply, so sorry for the delay in writing back. Anyway! I'm sorry to hear that the new album has pissed off some of the older fans. I mean, I have to admit...when I first heard "Black Rainbows" on the new Septic compilation, I was like "well, it's definitely interesting! Not sure how I really feel about it, I'll just wait until I can hear the entire new album before I make any opinions." And I'm really glad that I did, because it's a great album.
Honestly, I'm really not that surprised to hear that some of the fans of the older stuff are pissed off...not that they have any right to be, I'm just saying that the SAME thing happened when Apoptygma Berzerk decided to change musical styles - going from the dancey futurepop stuff to the more indie rock sound. And I'm not going to lie, I was one of the people who wasn't thrilled about that at all. So, all I can say is that I'm not surprised to hear that some are pissed off.
The thing is this...for a while now I've really been a fan of the VAC songs that kind of went against the old sound anyway...on Hex Angel, for example, my favorite song on that album was "Crawl"...I mean, you can't really take that track and compare it to older VAC songs like...anything off of Twisted Thought Generator (keeping in mind that I'm talking about comparing is sound-wise lol), or anything off of Fun With Knives. And, since I quit doing Remission, I've expanded my musical interests a lot. If there's one thing that burns you out on Goth/Industrial music pretty fast, it's gotta be either doing a radio show or being a DJ in a club that plays those genres. For the longest time while doing Remission towards the end, I started getting really burnt out on the same old shit...I started throwing in Trip-Hop and more interesting shit into the show. Then, when I stopped doing the radio show, I started getting into a lot of different music for the first time in years. A lot of indie stuff...indie rock, indie pop. It has the same appeal that goth/industrial used to have for me...TONS of really talented musicians who don't get noticed because they're not on fucking Universal's record label or MTV or anything.
And therein lies the problem...I mean I hate to say it, because I was part of the goth/industrial community for many years, but...it fucking stagnates! People want the same old shit year after year! Evidence can be seen by just going INTO the goth clubs...and I know you've been witness to it. People will NOT dance to a new song simply because they aren't familiar with it...and that's total shit...if it sounds good...fucking listen to it! dance to it...don't immediately leave the floor just because you aren't familiar with it and don't have all of your spooky moves choreographed to it, ya know? when I would go into the clubs, I would hear the SAME shit that had been spinning in the clubs YEARS before that. One night at a goth night I even heard a DJ spinning Sting's "Desert Rose"...I mean...seriously?! come on! I just find it rather sad to hear that some fans "hate" the new album...like I said, all they want is the SAME old shit over and over again...they want another "Calling ov the Dead" or "Fun With Knives"...which is just funny to me, because you even gave them a new version of "Phucking Phreak" on the new album...but I'm sure all of the old fans loved that track but hated the rest...or they even hated "Phucked up Phreak" because you "butchered" a classic, or some lame shit like that. It's just sad that, in a scene like the goth/industrial one, that people seem to frown upon change and creativity by artists - exploring other sounds...I mean, the VERY FIRST industrial track I ever heard was "Phucking Phreak" (some kid in my music class was listening to it)...before that, I had never heard industrial music in my life lol...and I was intrigued...it was exciting and different for me...so I went out that day and bought the album at Wax Trax. Then I started buying your other albums, and, honestly...I always loved Twisted Thought Generator...I know a lot of people I knew didn't even like that album...but the overall mood on that album and the lyrics to the songs were really amazing to me...and despite my love for Calling ov the Dead, I really took to VAC after I heard TTG...which, you have to admit, is pretty different from CotD lol.
So, like I said, I think people in the "scene" just need to expand their horizons and not get so fucking critical and uptight when an artist experiments with a new sound. Just remember, Bryan...you can't please everyone...nor should you try to. You're a musician, you make music for you...if others like it, that's just a bonus. Fuck the nay-sayers. Honestly, like I said, the new album is amazing. I'm sure other people will hear it and take to it to replace the shallow fuckers who have shown hate towards the new album.
And, just as a side-note, in the little "interview" sort of audio part on the new album, you were talking about depressing songs/albums...so I was just curious if you've ever listened to any of SoulWhirlingSomewhere's stuff...Before I heard SoulWhirlingSomewhere, nothing sounded as depressing as a lot of Cure songs, but man...SWS's albums are the most depressing albums I've ever heard...a bit minimal on a lot of songs...mostly just a lot of piano and acoustic guitar...some sparse beats in some songs...but yeah, just thought I'd throw that band out there in case you'd never checked his stuff out before...might be something you'd like. I think you'd be able to appreciate the sad goodness lol.
And, on that note, I'll let you get back to other stuff again lol sorry for the long, rambling message :)

Well, don't give up on VAC. I do plan on doing more music that doesn't sound like this in the future.

I wanted to make a simple lp, with catchy songs that appeal to people who like sad songs. A lot of VAC fans like tripped out angry stuff, and there is not a lot of that on this lp, I was really sad when I made this record. It works for some, and not for others.

Sorry that I don't agree with the nay sayers, i think the lp is really good, and very interesting. I guess it's not your taste is all.

while every track is amazing in it's own respect, i kinda just froze when i heard Faithless...

i've heard plenty of "cool" music over the years, but until this album, i've forgotten what it feels like to be deeply and utterly moved by it.

this album reaks of sincerity, and i hope VAC gets the recognition it deserves with this one.
