Synths: Modular, AFG, VCO6, RS95e, Frequensteiner, Revolution.

September 4th, 2008 by Hexfix93

Ok, I made a patch, sync, I’m sync out of the afg, into the vco6, the rs95e is on a pulse with pwm, and alien saws out of the afg, all into the frequensteiner, I have lfos going into an env, going into the vco6 to get the weird sync stuff. I like the way this sounds. Acid, but a new kind of acid. The virus cannot do things like this with this kind of sound quality and filter richness. Not to mention being sequenced with the future retro revolution. The sound source of the revolution is not being used, the sound is the modular, and the sequencer is the future retro revolution. Click Here to listen to the mp3 demo I made.

pretty stellar sounds.i wish there was a way for them to make a soft synth that could come close to this but i dont it is going to happen anytime soon.not that im so into softsynths just sometimes i like the accessibility and price.building one of these modular systems seems right next to building a time portal or vortex.lol but i guess thats part of what is exciting about it.i just wish i could put one together sooner.oh well at least theres the revolution till then. do you care if people took samples from these mp3 demos to use in there own tracks?i mean not like the whole thing but like a few seconds hear and there or no?

  2. Hexfix93 Says:

IF people started taking my demos and putting it in their music, .
i would stop doing these demos.

  3. nightmareinheaven667 Says:

oh ok.well thats why i asked.ill never do that with anyones music.actually i have to redo some songs just cause i hate the fact that i used the arpegiator on one of my synths.i feel like im cheating or something.anyways i remember reading how atom heart from lassigue bendthaus released some album and encouraged people to sample from him and wasnt sure if thats what this was about.oh yeah and i used some loops from reason to. i have to redo those to…fuck, this is gonna take forever.i should have never given u shit about taking to long to make music.

Hi. Many thanks for reviews and music. Good luck.

  5. magenticka Says:

Yep, that is tastey! What’s the latest with your set up? I thought you were going to get a poly at one stage?

  6. nphoria63 Says:

Nice! lol this puts my virus c to shame, i still love it though.

  7. pleasantdreamsinheaven777 Says:

i dont care what anyone says about the virus i think its the best va out there.i will never get why u hate va’s so much.there are also things the snow can do that this set up cant like hit those really crystal clear ambient sounds.dont get me wrong this thing is great and i love great analog sounds.but i think sometimes people use too much analog but thats just my opinion what do i know your the one who sells records.so when r u going to do a podcast already.i just want to know why you sold that gear.because u just told me if it wasnt for tod u would have to sell your gear then like a week later your selling it.why did u let the gibson go for so low?

….Daaamn. That’s some fat sounding modular. I’ve been thinking of assembling a modular setup myself. Something just seems so…….sexy about the sound. Digital just can’t compete, and I really hate softsynths. Too many fucking new people who pirate Cubase and a few SoftSynths who think they can make good shit, and can’t even fucking produce it right. Catch you on the other side, Bryan, and sorry that I couldn’t snag the Korg when I wanted. I did get myself an M-Audio Delta 1010 recently though, so I got the broken sound card remedied.

Virtual is not the same thing as the real deal. It’s just not.

I said, this thing does things the VAs and virus cannot, but so what, does that mean you shouldn’t own a virus? NO, and if you read my reviews sections, i state tons of times that i love the virus, and the jp8080. You guys need to get a clue. Guess what else, My 12 string acoustic can make sounds my modular can’t. So should i sell my modular because my 12 string does things my modular can’t?

LOL. use whatever you can, and make whatever you can. Don’t get a big ego about your gear, i don’t i know modular is not for everyone. I know my shit isn’t the best, that is not the point.

The true test of talent are those who can make great songs on crap gear. That is way more impressive to me.

I love my modular, and i like sharing that with you guys. thats all. Be happy with your software and vas. But don’t get your panties in a bunch cause i post something cool that those things cannot do.

Do you know how many years i had to wait till i could afford to get one of these modulars? A long time..

    Peace, out.

actually id say 60-70% of the gear i have is stuff i got because of your reviews.i have to say you were right about alot of it though so i dont regret it.but ive never heard u say that about crap gear before.which is weird because in the beginning thats all i had.and thats kind of how i felt about it being a challenge.your words about the true test of talent really resonate with me.but im still going to buy more gear.

i cant help myself now its like a compulsion.oh well atleast im being consumed by something positive.im not looking for a clue though i need the whole answer.all people get in life are clues to nothing riddles with no real answer.i did not mean to come off as having a tude about your post though.i know u like the snow thats y i bought it.

but i am a guy in case you were wondering so i dont wear girls underwear.i actually wear a speedo and compete in bodybuilding competions on the side to fuel my music endeavors…jk lol see ya

  11. nphoria63 Says:

Its more about how people use their gear than what gear they use. Hex has used alot of different synths, and still managed to make great songs.

Anyone with money can buy a synth, but it takes learning, patience and talent to make great music with it.

  12. Hexfix93 Says:

Cool, what’s the difference with me? I put my fucking money where my mouth is, i post reviews, and make clips to back my claims and opinions. I have many stages of opinions, initial, middle, and long term, sometimes they vary.

But over all, I do this as a community service for everyone who loves and hates me. I am just trying to be a spring board and give back something to the people.

I also say snappy things some times. But i meant the panties thing in good humor. Hehehehehe. I too lift weights, and am kind of a femme guy. so go figure..

  13. nphoria63 Says:

haha, its all good, we all have our quirks.

Its nice that you make these reviews and posts, not alot of artists (or none at all) besides you take the time to do it.

  14. pleasantdreamsinheaven777 Says:

i guess the difference is you have achieved success in this realm as where i am still searching for the key, answer or clue lol whatever u like.but yeah man no arguments from me at all in that regard.in the end i dont think any gear can match up against experience which you have in spades.

i actually laughed when i read the panties remark to be honest.im curious though do u go for high weight or high reps?i tell u high reps is the way to go if u want to get shredded but it is also more painful which some people like me actually prefer for some reason lol.

so yeah thanks for the site and the gear and information ive learned more here than i did in college taking my midi class and i actually learned alot in that class.in a way i kind of feel like this is an online class.but way more fun and advanced.

  15. nphoria63 Says:

Thanks again for the demos hex, i love them. Still, when it comes to synths, I prefer using old instruments more, but like you said, its not for everyone. lol

  16. deadsoul Says:

very nice demo, so many directions this modular can take you. a new diseased creature will spawn from this, i know it ;)

  17. Quietly Thankful Says:

Thank you very much for your detailed reviews and elaborate sound samples. It’s really a pleasure to have more information out there regarding modulars. For something so involved and absorbing very few people spend the time to provide demos, reviews, or even impressions. I appreciate your honest and blunt approach.

It’s also interesting to note how many bizarrely irate or generally incoherent people you attract here. Pleasantdreams and Nightmareinheaven…wading through their bewildered commentary is like taking a shit in a schizophrenic’s diary.

  18. kuxaan-sum Says:

wonderful! fat and lovely pulsewidth sweeps…love the effects of lfo on the oscillator.

i have wanted an A-100 for quite some time…curious about the way the A-100 translates long slides from the Revolution.
sounds very accurate, no latency or note loss.
    is that correct?

i have the Revo too and do not always get accurate note response on my SH-101.

  19. HellMurder Says:

    Wow.
