Games: Battlefield Bad Company for PS3, Hexfix93’s Take.

I played the demo a lot with friends before the game actually was released. We loved the the demo that we got for free off the Playstation Network. The demo was multiplayer only. So the first thing I did when I took the game home was jump online. Same as the demo, with better maps. I play the game with lunggravy, krztov, and statikcat. Yup that is the VAC KLAN. We play it a lot, and often on psn. Any how, I finally played the single player and beat the game. What I loved about this game and another decent title from EA “army of two” is the characters. You are not playing with boring doom style characters anymore. These characters seem to have a lot more personality which really adds something to these mindless shooters. I really got a kick out of haggard. In fact before I bought the game, there were these cool pamphlets for the game, mimicking a perfume add you’d find in a magazine like vogue. It was scratch n sniff. It smelled like gun powder and explosions. Click Here to see it. I thought it was genius.
So what makes this game so revolutionary that it pulled me away from call of duty 4 more than any other shooter has? Destructible Environments, you cannot just hide behind walls anymore, i’m not talking shooting through walls, i’m talking blowing the wall away with a rocket, or grenade. There is this cool weapon in the game the support character gets, you aim it and hold it on a tank or a building and then rockets shoot down from the sky, from satellites I think. I love that weapon, If you are patient enough you can kill like 4 or 5 people in one building with one shot. Thats cool. I also like running around as the special forces character, he uses c4, nothing like sneaking up on a tank and planting it, running away and killing 2 or 3 guys in the tank, you get a ton of points. Like call of duty 4 there is an online rpg type element, you get points and ranks that allow you to unlock weapons.

So what else sets this above cod4? Vehicles. They control well and really add a lot to the game. The maps are way bigger than any other shooter on the ps3. Vehicles are needed to travel long distances in some of the maps. There is only one multiplayer mode, that is attackers VS defenders. One team protects 2 gold crates, the other team tries to blow them up. Simple. The maps can be big, and the games can be long, much longer than most multiplayer maps on other games. Despite a lack of game modes, I still prefer playing this over the other shooters on the market because of the vehicles and destructible environments.

The Single player is hilarious. Kind of silly. But over all, really fun I thought. I beat it. It took me about 10 or 12 hrs. I took my time and played it over a long period. I didn’t get burned out at all. The weapons in the game are great. The character classes are better too, I love the support character who can heal. This is a solid package. Great game that was worth every penny I paid for it. We will play this a lot until socom or killzone 2 comes out. I don’t think I will be going back to COD4 any time soon. I like this game better now.

8.0 Presentation
Menus are easy to navigate, but man, inviting friends on multiplayer is kind of stupid, it will show you your friend ,you click on it, then it brings you to your ps3 friend list, and you have to find your friend again and then select him again, then send a message, stupid. cod4 is still the best here.
8.5 Visuals
This doesn’t have better graphics when compared to cod4, but it is pretty decent, not the best, but it doesn’t suck either. The frame rate is pretty solid.
9.5 Audio
The audio is better than cod4, but it is glitchy some times. I hated the blues music, but loved the sound fx and voice acting. ehhehe.
9.2 Game Mechanics
This game is tight, perfect. Easy to aim, easy to kill. You can run for a long time unlike in cod4 where you run out of gas constantly like you are on celebrity fitness on vh1.
9.5 Replay
No online co-op single player, that sucks, but other than that, the one multiplayer mode it does have holds up beyond expectations.
9.5 Total Score.
(out of 10 / not an average)
This is a game that I will play in 3 years I bet. I like this more than call of duty 4. I know cod4 is more polished, but I think this is a lot more fun and has enough improvements over the others that it is getting my highest marks of any fps out on the ps3 right now.
