I love this modular I have built. This demo shows me what I love about both filters, the bubbly resonance of the harvestman polivoks, into the aggressive cutting sound of the livewire frequensteiner. I recorded this into my mackie onyx, out into the rme fireface 800 into logic, I used a limiter on it, 6db only. The mfb osc is a pwm sound. I could never make this sound on a Future Retro XS. The more I mess with this thing, the more I realize how great the doepfer rack is, how many great custom boutique third party modules are available for this format. Thanks to Analog Haven and the advice of Shawn I have been able to slowly build up a system that really fits my needs and gives me a solid mono synth that is capable of making alien soundscapes and rhythms. No digital synth gave me the bite and juicy resonance on filters like these have. It almost sounds like real water bubbling. Turn this up loud!

Artist: Quartier Macabre.

April 22nd, 2008 by Hexfix93

Quartier Macabre has done a lot for me over the years. Unfortunately I could never pay him enough. He did the pretty toy music video, I could not afford to pay him for it because I just don’t make enough money to pay for anything like that. It sucks. I really like his art. He has his own style. A lot of people didn’t know that the hex angel lp art was a set, he built a little city scape for that. He makes masks that are really cool. I was thinking about taking him on my tour and having him do our make up and set design. But again, lack of money plagues me so I doubt that will ever come to fruition but who knows. Whatever the future I really hope that we work together again.

Here are my favorite pieces of art from Quartier Macabre:

one.

two.

three. This library is cool.

four. This library is cool as well.

Lets not forget His short film that won awards!(not work safe)(not for kids)

He also has shirts for sale:

Music: Meat Beat Manifesto: Autoimmune, Hexfix93’s take.

April 18th, 2008 by Hexfix93

Autoimmune Autoimmune
  1. International
  2. I Hold the Mic!
  3. Hellfire
  4. Less
  5. Solid Waste
  6. Lonely Soldier
  7. Children of Earth
  8. Young Cassius
  9. Guns N Lovers
  10. Return To Bass
  11. 62 Dub
  12. Colors of Sound
  13. Spanish Vocoder
  14. International Reprise

Ok, here we go. This cd tips it’s hat to the past a bit. The production is really up there. This is maybe the best sounding meat beat as far as the production goes. I hear a huge reggae dub vibe in many of the songs. I also here this avant guard aphex twin style modular madness in the music as well in some of the songs. The production is what sets this above aphex twin in my opinion. So warm and fat. Where this lp really stands is above the last couple of mbm releases. I think the songs on this have gotten back to the catchy side of jack’s psyche. The songs are structured more like songs, rather than just avant guard blips and beeps. It is not as catchy as say subliminal sandwich or 99% or satyricon, but it sounds like the logical step after actual sounds and voices which I liked a lot. I usually skip over in dub and ruok. This is not like the last 2 mbm cds. This one really is song oriented in the vein of actual sounds and voices. So if you were like me, not a huge fan of the last 2 MBM releases, this one reeled me back into the Jack Dangers camp again. The live show for this CD is amazing. That is what sold me on it more than anything. Go see them live. Below are some youtube videos, just the songs, low quality, so dont judge production by those videos.

Huge analog sounds, Big bass. Very goo drum production and beats. Sure Meat Beat’s Music has slowed down a lot over the ages tempo wise, but this one remains interesting despite being slow. The sound programming is amazing. I can tell he uses a lot of modular and vintage gear. His recordings have this warmth and fatness and smooth sound that many productions in the electronic genre lack. I think he is big on analog tape machines as well and I can tell that is part of what glues his mixes together. Not sure how he pulls it off. I am envious of the production.

My favorite track is Solid Waste, this song reminds me of the old consolidated records from way back when. I love when Jack sings. I wish he sang more on his lps, and that really is my only complaint about this record, the lack of Jack’s voice. Other tracks I really like on this cd are Young Cassius(kick ass rap like song, done in the tricky style), Less(very cool modular strange alien groove, reminds me of aphex twin), Children of Earth, Lonely Soldier(big ass bass), 62 Dub(alien dub, trippy), Spanish Vocoder(another aphex twin sounding track).

I really like this cd, I still think Jack should sing more and that is what keeps me from giving it a 5. The production on this CD is great. I give this a 3.8 out of 5. Buy now! Click Here to buy Autoimmune by Meat Beat Manifesto. Click Here to download Autoimmune by Meat Beat Manifesto

Concert Reviews: Meat Beat Manifesto 2008. Hexfix93’s take.

April 17th, 2008 by Hexfix93

You Got to be there to believe it. The video above kind of shows you, but not really. The video work is awesome. They have the best drum sound on the planet, I’m not kidding. They are the kings of beats. This show knocked me on my ass. I saw them in 2005, it was similar, the big video screens, and that show was in my top 10 all time. This one is as well. I spent 60 bucks at this show(bought a tshirt 20, ticket was 20, and I bought the new cd for 15, then tipped mark pistol’s kick ass GF who was working the merch booth 5 bucks, be sure you tip her too) , I don’t go to shows that often, but this year is going to break me. I will see the cure, ladytron, tegan and sara, and a few others.. This one I have a feeling will be the best out of all the shows I see this year. Please, I am not kidding, this is one the best things you will ever see in your life. Even if you are not a fan of Meat Beat Manifesto, please go and see how the pros use video sequencing and sampling in realtime. They played a long set, and did encores here in denver. It was great, The turn out was ok, but it snowed, so I think that is why it was not as great as it should of been. Now, I am label mates with Good old Jack Dangers, Maybe I can hit him up for a remix, heh, yeah right. I would die if he did. Oh well, one can dream right? And BTW, I do like the new Meat Beat cd “Autoimmune”, I will post a review of it tomorrow.

Don’t be a fool, These guys are one of the best live acts out there. The production is amazing. The sound Is amazing, The Drums and synths WOW. Huge. Don’t miss this.. And buy his merch! This is what most all of the other electronic bands wish they could pull off live and fail miserably at. This is the real deal. These guys are the masters. BTW, Mark Pistol is from consolidated, The drummer rocks, and i think the tino dude, aka DHS(dimensional holophonic sound) guy is on stage with mbm too. They break out into a dhs set towards the end, IT KICKS ASS! I’m not kidding. Peace out.

Goa, Psy, MotherFrackin TRANCE!

April 16th, 2008 by Hexfix93

I was watching mtv amp. This came on. I was high. During the Fun With Knives Era of my production. I was hooked. Listen to this. It is so trippy. The tribal drums mixed with dance xox. Then these wicked strange alien sound fx that become part of the rhythm. Then the FLA style bass line. The sound fx rock. The drums are great. This totally inspired me to get into a new genre of music. Goa=Psy trance. The year? 1996. This music blew my head off.

This is one of my favorite astral projection songs. Certainly one of their more pop oriented dance tracks. But i fucking love it. Its pretty, Epic, and musical with out being uber cheesy like most pop trance is.

I’m not that big of a fan of Man With No Name, But they were one of the first on the goa bandwagon, and have a few songs i like a lot. this being one of them. Pioneers of the goa trance movement.

Really cool song by legion of green men, kind of like stange psy trip hop, the only song i like form this band, but i love the video, so fucking cool.

Eat Fucking Static. Not really typical trance, I call them alien abduction psy electronica. Still. I got into them around the same time that GOA ate my fucking head off.

Featured Artist: Diamanda Galas. Hexfix93’s Thoughts.

April 15th, 2008 by Hexfix93

She is so overlooked in the spooky scene. To me she is the tops, The spookiest of the spooky. When I was just 18, I had an acid kult of sorts. We had acid tests. This was one of them. One of our rights of passage in our crew was at least 3 hits of strong lsd, and 3 hrs of Diamanda(litanies of satan) while peaking. I’m not kidding. Only a few of us Didn’t pass. I passed with flying colors. This music gave me some of the most intense visuals and audio hallucinations I have ever had in my life. There is so much emotion and passion in her performances. Like a possessed witch. But knowing her back stories, sorrow. So much sorrow in her older works. With good reason. Some of her songs are about aids, rape, insanity. She is a very intelligent woman. A very attractive stone faced force of nature.

She is super avante guard. Completely in a class of her own. Super talented. The voice of a very well trained opera vocalist, trapped in a body that has knows real scorn. I always loved how she attacks modern religion, the church. Her old music is some of the strangest and most insane music I have ever opened my ears to. I’m not kidding.

Not all of her work is super weird and spooky. Most of it is dark though, so I warn you, this music is not for the squeamish. I’ve seen this music scare the shit out of people. Send them running in horror. I’ve seen it tear people apart mentally. Especially if you turn it up really loud, it becomes very insane!

Her cover of Gloomy Sunday is AMAZING!. The emotion in her voice, how she plays the piano, the story she tells at the beginning is awesome as well. I miss the days when there was real innovation and a real desire to stand out and be different and really be different in the music industry.

I used to describe our acid test like, “How much hell can you swallow with your ears?”. I’ll be honest, I’m only really a fan of her older works. The spooky stuff. Not a fan of her jazzy or blues stuff. Just not my thing. So i will focus on the old stuff I like. the video below is not work safe, contains male nudity.

I recommend The Litanies of Satan, Plague Mass, The Devine Punishment. Buy these, They are the creepiest, spookiest, darkest CDs in my collection. I think I own a lot of death rock and goth music. This is the darkest in my collection with out a shred out doubt. My favorite songs are Wild Women with Steak Knives, Double Barrel Love, Deliver Me From Mine Enemies, free among the dead, Exeloyme, and Gloomy Sunday.
