Zombies that can shoot guns :) Dig it! Story is pretty simple, immortals trying to get to another dimension, but use the blood of a certain someone to open the door. This is a beat em up. This is yet another Japanese movie with some extremely colorful characters. You have a small cast but every character sticks out with their own style and personality. The hero is cool and all of the bad guys he must face in this movie. Then there are the funny and stupid characters that are just hilarious. Even if none of these actors will win an award for their performance, each of the characters were unique and great: from the wussy stupid yakuza to the unbelievable poser cop! The characters are a very important part of the movie, if they were not all interesting and unique this movie would have probably been less interesting.

There are a lot of great fight scenes. I love the zombie stuff. It kind of looks low budget, but it is done well. I like B movies like this. If you compare it to something like the matrix it’s lame, but i don’t so. rent it! or if you are rich, buy it. I give this a 3 and a half out of 5. Click here to buy VERSUS on DVD.

Got this DVD now. It’s certainly very watchable and I can see the attraction for gorehounds and fight-fiends but I thought that the narrative was a bit weak. 3.5 of out 5 seems a fair score. Of movies in a related genre I really like the “Zatoichi” series because the stories are usually interesting with lots of “real-life” details and Shintaro Katsu is such an engaging character.
