I think this is the best record ever made. From start to finish, every song is AAA. I still listen to this lp quite often. I grew up with this record one could say. I came of age to this record. Many things in my life happened when this music was playing, either at clubs, on the radio, in my x gf’s car driving long distances, or on MTV.
For me, Depeche Mode is the band I turn to when I get tired of listening to all forms of music. It has the power to renew my interest even if I am totally burned out on music. Electronic POP music. One of the Few POP bands I can actually stand. Picking a favorite song on Violator is extremely hard. I love how the songs ebb and flow, build tension and release it.
I will have to say, Enjoy The Silence, Is probably my favorite song on Violator. This has the best production ever. Every sound in that mix is golden. No bad sounds, Everything is punchy and vibrant. The music is amazing as well, Who would of thought a 909 snare could hook a song like that. I think my favorite part of that song is the filter sweeps that come in during “all i ever wanted”. It’s Neat.
In my opinion, this is the is the best sounding electronic lp ever made, and I am strictly speaking from a production stand point. Listen to the sounds. How it’s mixed. The Performances. I mean this is the best sounding pop record ever made. This in combination with some of the best song writing ever, honestly put this LP over the Top. Depeche Mode is no where close to being my favorite band. But this is probably my favorite LP in most all the categories I can think of. Engineering, Mixing, Recording, Songs, Performance. I mean, This is Golden in ever way.
My second favorite song is Halo. If you have never heard any of this, you really must be living under a rock. For a long time, No one was able to escape hearing something from this LP either on MTV, the radio, TV, everywhere, clubs. I still love this record. Has there been a POP record made with this quality since? NO WAY. Nothing has even come close to this in the entire music world. It truly is a GEM.
This is worth every cent. And now , its dirt cheap every where because of how popular this cd was. Pick it up! Click Here to buy Violator by Depeche Mode.

Sorry mate, but I think you’re avin a giraffe with this one. I wouldn’t say it was even the best Depeche Mode LP let alone the best LP ever. And I think you’ll find it’s dirt cheap everywhere because no one feckin wants it!

I love Depeche Mode. Flaxman has no taste :)
I almost love everything from these guys, especially their very old B-Sides and the remixes they did over the years. It´s well collected on the LP called “Remixes 81-04″. I recommend this one.
“Enjoy The Silence”, “Halo”, “Clean” and especially “Personal Jesus” are my favourites. Mansons cover from “Personal Jesus” sucks. Go and listen to the original!!!

No offence, DF. Of course I’m not saying it can’t be your favourite. Did I actually say that? I just prefer “Speak and Spell” and “Construction Time Again” that’s all.

i like old DM as well, but production is a big deal to me, and Violator has the best sound quality i have ever heard on a LP.

I love your taste. I first listened to this album in the 5th grade, and have been listening to it quite often since. Sweetest Perfection hooked me back then, and now (and I think DM is partially to blame for this) I’m lost in a world of industrial noise and synth. DM, A23, and VAC are among my favorite bands… ever… bottom line. And stuff by cEvin key of course… and Tear Garden and Legendary Pink Dots… now I’m just rambling… anyway, I’m bored a lot of the time and have opinions to share as well… e-mail me sometime man. Take care. Or try to, anyway.

Violator is hands down my favorite album by one of my favorite all-time bands. It’s also one of my favorite albums of all time, period. There’s this certain excitement I get everytime without fail the opening chords of “Enjoy the Silence” begin. The album is one of those seminal albums that took my music listening into a new direction. It truly is the sweetest perfection, pardon the pun.

I agree with you on all counts about this albumn. One of the best albumns of all time in my book as well. You really have to give credit where it’s due about the production on this albumn since it (as well as their next albumn Songs Of Faith and Devotion) was produced by FLOOD who also produced NIN’s Broken albumn. The timing for this albumn also helped in it’s success.
