Anyday now. One of my all time favorite lps ever. One word. MAJESTIC. That is the best word to describe the sound of this record. Super musical, talented beyond my comprehension, the classical style, the violins, the synths, the vocal fx, the uber poetic lyrics, the production. No other musician can tell stories like edward ka-spel can, his haunting voice, his intelligent descriptive words, he can draw you into a world. Listen to casting the runes, and waiting for the clouds, these songs are mesmerizing to me. I cannot stress enough how amazing i think this is. Seeing how this is my favorite band of all time, i could not resist to do this review. I should of done it first. But i figured i wait till i got some more attention before i turned the spotlight on this amazing band. Below is a video that uses “casting the runes” as the sound, it is not related to the band in any other way, but you can hear the song at least. NOT WORK SAFE, it contains Nudity and blood. Warning.

I cannot put them into a category, to me, they are original, sure some people have said, pink floyd, but not really, some people say david bowie, but not really. I say the pink dots. They are a genre unto themselves(we “vac”, tried very hard to be like them in this regard). Their lps vary so much. This is the middle of their time line, from the middle on is their best work in my opinion. This was the beginning of a sound that would cary them into the early 90s. 1988 was a long time ago. But who cares this is a GEM, and one of the best lps ever made in my opinion. Below is another video with the music from waiting for the cloud. I think it’s from the movie Q. bloody. Not Work Safe.

Seriously, Any Day Now, The Golden Age, Crushed Velvet Apocalypse, and the Maria Dimension are the best lps of the pink dots. Nothing on this earth sounds that good in my opinion. This was my life for years and years. The beginnings of vac, we listened to nothing but the dots. No joke. Below is another stupid video using under glass from any day now.

My favorite tracks off this lp are: Casting the Runes, The Gallery, True Love, Waiting for the Cloud, Under Glass, The Light in my Little Girl’s Eyes. I don’t care what anyone else says, This era of music they did from 1985 to 1992 is simply amazing, even all the side projects, the tear garden, edward ka-spel, all of it is worth hunting down and buying if you are into this. No Dots, no VAC. They are that big of a deal to us. Seriously. If you like this, go buy it! Click here to buy.

Oh, and be nice and comment, tell me what you think of this. thank you.

Love, Disease Factory.

HELL YES!!! I love “Any Day Now” and I too love the Dots to death. One of my all time favorite bands as well. “Any Day Now” is easily one of their greatest albums just like you said. This album is loaded with wonderful songs and is right up there with The Maria Dimension and Crushed Velvet Apocalypse. Out of the 15+ CDs I own by the Dots, “Waiting for the Cloud” is still my favorite LPD song. It’s also very inspiring to know that you listened to them so much when VAC was first starting out. These guys are beyond unique and cannot be classified into one genre of music. It’s really a shame more people on this forum aren’t into them.

  2. DAYS in EXILE Says:

People NEED to buy this album. They aren’t some crappy Pink Floyd rip off nor are they a bunch of amateurs. Every single member is talented and experienced. Ka-Spel worked with cEVIN Key of Skinny Puppy with The Tear Garden AND cEVIN is even featured on drums on the LPD album “9 Lives to Wonder.” These guys have put out literally hundreds of songs. Don’t be afraid to buy “Any Day Now”–it is amazing. These guys make most of today’s music look extremely shallow by comparison. Support good music!

    Thanks for reviewing this Bryan

I know, i find it a shame that not more people know this music. I get sick of mindless rivet head crap. Sure i like some older industrial, but i need music to relax to and dream to. For me that is the dots. I enjoy that more than clinching my fists and being angry all the time.

I still think the golden age, and this one are my favorites. Because they rock out more, i mean under glass, and the black list and maniac really rock out in this kick ass trancy way..

To bad your the only one who has commented so far. what a shame.

  4. DAYS in EXILE Says:

It really is a shame. This is the kind of music that calms me down and makes me feel better when I’m having a bad day. It’s also great to drive to late at night and let your mind wander. Their music is always fun to listen to and also very colorful. Ka-Spel’s lyrics and storytelling are brilliant and in my opinion, the only other band that really comes close is Death in June. The older LPD albums are so far from the mainstream too…About as anti-mainstream as you can get. The guys who aren’t giving them a chance really don’t know what they’re missing out on.

By the way, I just bought The Golden Age tonight. Can’t wait to get it in the mail!

“Any Day Now” was the first record I bought from this band after years of hearing about them as an influence of “Puppy”. Always imagined a video of “Down from the Country” in Kubrick or Danny Boyle style. “Green Gang” is so trippy. It’s like “Apocalypse Now”.

  6. Disease Factory Says:

Yes, the green gang is so amazing. So very amazing. I love the tear garden, ophelia and you and me and rainbows. Simply elegant. i dunno. These guys deserve to be mega huge. but instead they are just a cult band.. sad to me that most people have such bad taste.

  7. DAYS in EXILE Says:

Green Gang is EXTREMELY trippy. I’ll never forget that one line where Ka-Spel randomly yells “RED ALERT!” Hahaha freaked me out so bad the first time I heard it. Amazing song. I also love The Pleasure Palace. That was actually the song that made me buy Crushed Velvet Apocalypse.

Their music will truly take you places. I was listening to “Under Glass” on the way home from work today and I literally spaced out for a good minute or so (around the part with the violin solos). I completely forgot where I was and what I was doing…Sort of an out of body experience without drugs. It wasn’t the first time that’s happened while listening to them. Most of the stuff on Chemical Playschool 8 and 9 will do that to you too.

  8. rosenrot Says:

“Saucers over Chiago” on “Live at the Metro” is great. It really shows his story telling ability. Funny too with talking about people smoking ciggs outside the MacDonald’s. Then it gets all funky and sonicly tripped out, live. They have been touring in Europe latley.Wow, wish they would come here. I don’t see it though.

  9. Disease Factory Says:

Totally, i have seen him so many times, and every time in the show the show will break down and he will have some wild story, out of no where, and every time it’s different and witty. the man is possessed. He is a prophet as he proclaims.

And i still think they kick major ass live, i saw them a couple years back. so much fun..

  10. Disease Factory Says:

i wish i could get that room sound, the verb on the violins is amazing.. it really spaces me out too.

  11. DAYS in EXILE Says:

You mean the violins and on “Under Glass” ? I’d go as far as to say they have the perfect reverb sound on that song and the entire album for that matter. It sounds so full and rich. I’ve never heard violins sound so good and it’s sad that they don’t have Patrick Q Wright anymore. I wish I could have seem them live in the mid 80’s right after “Any Day Now” was released…What a show that must have been!

That line keeps echoing through my head…”Under glass ahh ahh ahh ahh bum bum bum” hahaha! It’s addictive.

  12. Menschenfeind Says:

itunes counter says i listened to “waiting for the clouds” 327 now since yesterday.. lol..
are there more lpd songs of that kind? i love that song…

  13. DAYS in EXILE Says:

I knew you’d like it. They have a lot of epic songs…Not quite as epic as “Waiting for the Cloud” but close. Here are a few more you should definitely check out: “I Love You in Your Tragic Beauty, “Sterre,” “Laguna Beach,” “Poppy Day,” “The Ocean Cried Blue Murder,” “Princess Coldheart,” “Fate’s Faithful Punchline,” “Just a Lifetime,” and “The Day It Happened.” That’s just a small handfull of my favorites. I’m sure The Golden Age has some wonderful stuff too…I haven’t gotten my copy in the mail yet.

  14. killinggame Says:

Wow. I am amazed. The first song especially blew me away. I’ve heard of the band name but never took the time to check it out. Will now!

  15. Menschenfeind Says:

    just bought the cd :)

thanks for the advice days in exile..

  17. funkerfla242 Says:

perfectly described. Have been a long time LPD fan…the music is amazing through out these records….can listen to them over and over again, and never get tired of it. Same is true for older delerium, and DCD…music that takes the listener on an internal journey to where ever they see fit…the metaphores used by ka-spel allow the listener to make their own interp. of what the songs meaning truly is…almost like watching donnie darko…new interp. of that movie every time i see it…not the greatest film ever made…but sim. kind of experience given to the listener/viewer.
